Anyone else using this? It's basically an online music service that allows you to stream a shit-tonne of music, and it's all perfectly legal. A YouTube for music, kinda. It also looks a lot like iTunes which means it's simple to use, and it's being touted as "the future of the music industry" by some folk, which must mean something, right?

Downsides? The free version interjects 20 second audio ads every 5 or so songs.

Upsides? It allows me to listen to Lady GaGa without having to buy it/do something illegal :mrgreen:

It's available here but it's in beta at the moment, but I have some invitations going spare and once you're in you'll also have 10 invitations to share with others. So be nice and share the wealth. If you fancy an invite just send me a PM and I'll dish them out first come first served.

Oh my. I was saying to my dad this was the future of making money off of music, he rubbished me.
Of course we'll have to see if this catches on.

It's a great idea, but it isn't the future of music. Because it's streamable and not downloadable, people can't put it on their MP3 players. Until you can, it will never take over from our current system of buying CD's or buying/downloading the MP3 files.

Been using it for a couple of weeks now.

It's light on the system resources, but I find it can hog a substantial portion of your bandwidth; bit of a double-edged sword in that respect. The only annoying thing about the ad's is that they're a bit louder than the actual music, so it can be a bit of a shock when they come on.

I've just realised you can make collaborative playlists!

That's what I wondered actually, yeah until they let you play offline it won't do much.

There's already a few subscription services (at least in the USA) that let you download unlimited amounts of music for a fee every month, and you can play them offline as well.

Seems a bit like a glammed up last.fm actually (with far more tracks of course).

I haven't loaded it up in quite a few weeks (as I had my bandwidth capped by my ISP for breaching their fair use policy), but I was pleasantly surprised by how great it was. Good times.

Yes, it is; but with the aid of Audacity, you can record the tracks as they play (by changing the output/input options) and convert the file to MP3 using the appropriate LAME Encoder.

Not exactly simple and quick, though.

I don't use it as much as I used to, since they deleted a bunch of stuff from their records due to geographical restrictions.

I quite like it. Easy user interface. Not sure about the quality yet though.
