That is the one thing it is sorely, sorely missing. I like to use it as a tool for finding new music, and the current methods really arent great.

It can however scrobble to Last.fm, which does that job much better than Spotify itself is ever likely to.

Seeing as I'm too lazy to Google it...what does "scrobble" mean? It's something I've been meaning to ask for well over a year

I only recently realised it was a "real" word, and not just something Last.fm made up. It means to capture, basically, and in this context it means that Last.fm "captures" a record of what you listen to. :)

Grooveshark will now be my new music home

Looks to be identical to Spotify and you can listen to music in a browser

Actually it was just a word that Audioscrobbler made up.

That's what I thought, but amazingly it's much older than that:

Urban Dictionary wrote:3. Scrobble
Verb: To kidnap or capture. In particular to throw a bag or cloth over the head and bundle the victim away.

The term was coined by John Masefield in "The Midnight Folk", published in 1827, and is used extensively in the "Box of Delights", published in 1937, where Cole Hawlings is 'scrobbled' by throwing a black bag over his head and bundling him into a car.

Neil Gaiman also used scrobbling in the same sense in “Neverwhere”, published in 1996. Gaiman acknowledges the Box of Delights as the origin of the word.
"... Kay are waiting to scrobble the treacherous cats" Midnight Folk

"We have no intention of violating their market truce. More of waiting till she has left the market and scrobbling her ..." Mr Croup - Neverwhere

If I understand the update correctly, you can just create a new account every six months right and just get the current service.

I might have to give this a go, and simply forward the playlists to the new account each time :shifty:

But won't it still be capped at a 20 hour limit? I don't think the full free version has been available for a long while now...

I've started using the £5 service. It was that strawberry floating Portal 2 advert that forced my hand.

Definitely wasn't a dream!

Spotify blog wrote:For anyone who thinks they might reach these limits, we hope you’ll consider checking out our Unlimited and Premium services, neither of which will be affected, plus we have a 7-day free trial for Spotify Premium that we’d love you to try. Throughout May, we’ll also have a pretty nice 30-day free trial for Spotify Premium – more details on that in the next few days.

Although, saying that, no more details emerged since...

So I can now only listen to 10hrs a month?
If you can only listen to a track 5 times then that makes the starred/favourites list pointless too.

Think I'll leave Spotify and just stick Jackfm on instead.
