The stand out fact is that even people who are not big into comics know his name, his success transcended fandom and medium. I don't know anyone who has not been touched in some way by his creations. Comics will not see his like again.

Genuinely sad to hear about this, his writing influenced a lot of my life. His attitude towards artist credit was very poor, but you can't argue with the guy's record as a writer and editor. Magnificent.

Despite always struggling to get into reading comics I always knew who Stan Lee was. He then obviously became a wider legend through the MCU. I hope his cameo in the next avengers film is a good one (I assume they filmed one). A sad day indeed.

Never been into comic books but really enjoyed watching his characters on screen. Always loved Spider-Man and the X-Men especially, many hours spent thrilled at their antics watching the cartoons as a kid (I just finished rewatching the 90s Spider-Man cartoon). The last few years really enjoying the MCU as well and Avengers 3 being one of my favourite action movies ever.

What a legacy this guy has.

Thanks Stan.

RIP Stan, thanks for everything. The cameos in next year's films are going to be really emotional.

R.I.P. We all knew it was coming in the near future, given his age, but it still hits hard.

CGI. If they can do it with Star Wars, they will do it with Stan Lee.

It’s the most upset I’ve been about a celebrity death since Carrie Fisher.
A colossus of a man whose influence is so massive and so deeply entrenched that it cannot be summed up in words. He’s a driving force (and has been for decades) of so many cool things across so many different media and genres. A great innings from a great man whose legacy is strawberry floating unparalleled.
Great man. Iconic pop culture figure.
RIP mate.

This comment, which I found in the comments section of Stan Lee's obituary, in The Guardian conveys what I think better than I ever could:

Whatever the exact creative balance was between Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, there can be no argument that between them they created something of lasting cultural importance - and incomparably so. I'm ashamed to say that I only learned of Steve Ditko's own death after seeing an obituary panel at the foot of this article. A marvellous comic-book artist, with a beautifully elegant and fluid style - his cover for The Amazing Spiderman 33 ('The Final Chapter') is, in my humble opinion, one of the most visually striking and original images the medium has produced.

Bonus:

First appearances of Spidey and Thor... via The Naked City.

Featuring Batman's The Penguin :P
