Sorry guys. Didn't have my phone on me so didn't see the invite until much later. I might be able to get on later tonight though if you're up for it again.

Gonna have to miss this tonight as well I'm afraid. Pretty annoyed as I've not even had a chance to install it yet, never mind play it. Ill try and get on Sunday or Monday night though.

I might be able to do Sunday about 7 or 8.

The TNG stuff definitely takes some getting used to, really needs a full crew to handle it. Operations in particular has a lot to keep track of. You can have 5 crew members active at a time, but you only get 3 of each type, and once they're killed then that's it. You can use sickbay to treat injured ones before they're killed however. But you'll need to keep moving them around, and you need to be aware that the further away the section of the ship you're assigning them to, the longer it takes for them to get there.
Captain is visually quite different, but once you get into the swing of things it's actually simpler than before. You have Answer Hail and Red Alert as their own buttons, everything else is on a PADD at your side, rather than split between buttons on either side of your chair.

Tactical is more or less unchanged, however now only Tactical is able to carry out scanning, and only Operations can carry out transport operations. Previously flight control could carry out these operations but I didn't see the option for either on TNG Flight Control.

Count me in for Sunday at 7.
I agree about this being way more complex than the other ships as it just isn't anywhere near as intuitive which is odd as I'd expect the design of the main controls to get simplified over time not the other way around.

I don't think I'd say it's not as intuitive.
I think we've just gotten used to the old system and change is always difficult to get used to, and the tutorials only cover the old systems. By the time we finished up last night I was definitely getting the hang of things and once I actually found where things were it all started to click.

If they had made a TNG tutorial section I think it would've been a lot better. I'm surprised they didn't given the level of some of the changes.

So I'm playing this on PS4 (non VR) because it was on sale and I'm a big Trek nerd.

It's quite fun, if bonkers. :D (On non VR each stick on the controller controls a different hand. It's amazingly comical).

I've only done the tutorials and prologue solo...but good fun.

Is online/matchmaking still active?

Yep, with the new Borg and TNG update I'd say it's more popular now than it has been for ages.
