However, some ship classes have been known to stay in service for over 100 years after introduction. The Excelsior Class springs to mind.

There are also missions with time-rifts, according the the preview in PC Gamer some months back. So you will see classic ship designs dotted around the place.

So is anyone actually going to get this? I didn't think we had many mummorpugers on here. I've never played an MMORPG before, the main reason being that I don't always have time to play, and don't want to be bound to serve the levelling needs of a character even if I don't want to play. Will I just be cannon fodder if I dip in and out? Obviously I won't be right at the top, but will the game still be fun?

I'll be getting it if only because a friend is bugging me to get it.

From what I understand the game will be quite heavily instanced. I hope not.

To be fair, having seen that trailer I can imagine it being impossibly cool to have a GRcade fleet of starships. My interest in this game has suddenly gone up a notch!

A GRCade fleet would be 100% solid gold win! Possibly a bit of a stupid question, but will it be cross-platform multiplayer? I don't see why it couldn't be to be honest, but so few games are in my experience. There are only a few of us on here even thinking of getting this game (I really want it but may not be able to afford it - I can't afford to renew my Live sub atm), and if we all split between 360/PS3/PC it'd be a shame.

I did not know this game was being released on consoles. Colour me interested!

Also...Voyager was not set 20/30 years ahead of DS9. If you recall the first episode of voyager took place at DS9. I think Season 1 of voyager started whilst DS9 was in it's 2nd or 3rd series? The end of Voyager would have only been a few years ahead of the end of DS9's stardate....I think?

This is spoilered for a reason, so don't look if you're watching Voyager now:-
The last episode was set 20-30 years after they got back from the Delta quadrant (and therefore about 20-odd years after the end of DS9), so they had a beefed up ship, that's what MCN and I were discussing.

Really? Jesus. I only watched Voyager once, while it was on TV. So I don't remember much from it.

Yeah, neither did I to be honest, I've not watched them chronologically, but I remember in the last episode Janeway had grey hair, and Voyager had ablative armour and stuff.

Oh, and while we're talking about Voyager, bagsy Prometheus class - multi-vector assault mode FTW!

Sorry to go all nerdy on you but the future as shown in the final episode of Voyager doesn't exist because Janeway changed the future by time travelling and getting the ship home early, kind of like how the future as shown in All Good Things doesn't exist.

They got back home before Nemesis, so probably about three years after DS9 finished.

If your getting into all that you could technically argue that the new film came along and dumped on 2 decades of Star Trek canon. But anyway if this game runs at anywhere near a decent speed on my desktop PC, or if indeed it does appear on 360 and I'm still employed at the time (always handy) then I'll be signing up.

I wouldn't count on the 360 version. In all probability it'll vanish up MS's nether-regions like the 360 version of it's stablemate Champions Online has.

Still, I'm sure Sony would welcome it. Maybe even all platforms on a single server (The PC and PS2 versions of Phantasy Star Universe were on a shared server, as I recall, as was FF, so it's blates possible).
