That’s my assumption too but my guess is that we’ll never find out for sure because this show is good at understanding what is and isn’t important.

Depends on the references being made - maybe it's a piece of dialogue or a ship in the background serving as a callback to a movie, or even another franchise. It's usually not that noticeable in the moment.

Meanwhile, Luthen's shop is wall to wall references and callbacks - the Carbonited Indiana Jones whip, the Sith Stalker armor, the Mandalorian armor, the Wookiee helmet, etc.

I suspect that Luthen's shop might actually be a little dig at the pandering nature of some of the other Star Wars creators and their indulgence of memberberries and easter egg culture. Almost as if they're saying to those that enjoy those things, "OK, here you go, knock yourselves out with this lot, but we'd now like to go ahead and tell the story we want to tell without being encumbered with such things". I also don't think it's an accident that they chose to put all those items in what is, quite literally, a shop that sells relics. A prequel to a prequel this might be but it's felt like the freshest Star Wars has been for a long, long time.

Without a statement from Gilroy, there's no evidence for the idea of Luthen's antiquities shop being any kind of dig.

I would be surprised if it is, though, considering that it's not the only place references are made in the show:

• Mon Mothma stands up for the Ghorman people — Rebels.
• Luthen, giving Cassian the Blue Sky Kyber, references the ancient Rakata — Knights of the Old Republic.*
• The Empire is revealed to be sending prisoners to the world of Belsavis — Knights of the Old Republic.*
• The Kenari and Ferrix flashbacks directly reference the Republic, Separatists and possibly the early Empire — Clone Wars, Bad Batch & Prequels.
• Coruscant in general, but specifically every Senate chamber scene — Clone Wars & Prequels.
• Palpatine's inner circle (Sly Moore) — Prequels.
• Cassian's Bantha toy and the ISB's camera equipment — A New Hope, Book of Boba Fett.

* Both of them pick up a referential thread that started in the Book of Boba Fett, with the references to Tatooine's oceans drying up - again, the Rakata.

The references, whether spoken or only seen, help establish that this story is not taking place in a vacuum - that this is an old galaxy, with innumerable histories, cultures, ongoing events.

The show is a breath of fresh air, wildly different in tone and pacing to what we've seen before, but to pretend like it isn't referencing other SW projects, or that if it is, then it must be somehow a dig, is a bit silly.

Oh, it was another beauty. These last two episodes can't arrive quick enough. I want to see how things are ending so much.

Absolutely astonishing. Serkis deserves all of the awards he won't get because 'it's only a silly star wars show'.

Really good dramatic episode this one S1E10. Some great performances throughout the series so far - Skarsgård, and Genevieve O'Reilly really stand out.

I'm loving that we get to see more of Mon Mothma. Such an important character that's always been glossed over in the live action stuff.

Plus Genevieve reminds me of Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) if she was a few years older and could actually act.

Episode 10, just wow.

This is comfortably the best shoe D+ have done with Star Wars or Marvel.

It's been well cast, the performances have been top notch but its actually a proper TV show that's been well written and paced. Really shows up a lot of their other content

Seems like that was the art department sneaking stuff into the background

Good interview with the show creator on that link by the way

Another week, another absolutely gobsmacking episode. If this gooseberry fool doesn't win all the awards, I swear to strawberry floating God...

I think we can safely say Luthen's cost monologue is up there with the likes of Yoda (luminous beings, we are what they grow beyond, etc.), Anakin (I have brought peace...), and Luke's (Jedi hubris) monologues from the movies, among others.

Luthen Antiquities Easter Egg: Padmé Amidala's headpiece.

The last two episodes have been fantastic! I wasn't sold on Andor at the start, I think watching the episodes weekly as they came out did make the show seem slower than it actually is had it been released all at once or in blocks.

But boy has this show got me gripped now!

Honestly this is the best star wars content outside of some of the games story wise for me. I love the OT but even then the story isn't perfect, neither is the acting. This is basically like if you took the cool stories from some of the best star wars games and put it in a TV format. It's fantastic.

I think this blights alot of the curret series. I purposefully waited until the end of she hulk to binge at once - and that seemed fine to me. I watch Kenobi weekly and that was hit or miss pacing. I also watch WandaVision weekly and that did tend to drag, then i binged them all at once and I felt the pacing was alot better than when i weeklied it.

That's the trouble with shows that are being made for streaming, as they feel much more natural to binge than watch weekly, but the episode scheduling is taking all of its cues from network television.

I think a good compromise would be to pay heed to show arc structures, and drop batches of episodes on one day each week, or a couple spread over the week, based on that. Andor's launch drop of three episodes was the ideal example of how to do this.
