Oh, definitely. It's still the same classic Battlefront we've loved even through all these bugs. Just wished more effort was put into it for something that's meant to be celebrating the 20th of Battlefront. Like, how is it that there's less options for catering the experience to your liking than the original releases?

Nightdive and Bluepoint continue to be the standard bearers for quality Remasters then.

Aspyr just seem too hit or miss. Though Tomb Raider was decent.

It's hard to caveat talk about the game correctly. I wouldn't (so far) say anything has been mishandled that fundamentally detracts from the games, so on that level they are still great, but it's not the unarguably definitive version it could have been.

Remasters are maybe a bit like localisations (they're just localising through time, not language?). What Aspyr have done here is the equivalent of a functional translation, not a proper localisation. Yes the UI is now an upscaled HD version of the original UI, but that makes it worse than the original, like how a literal translation of an idiom doesn't work as well in the new language.

It's just disappointing that it doesn't seem to do anything that the fan-mods for the originals don't do at least as well (from what I've heard).
It just looks like a very quick and dirty effort. Given that I would have been getting the PC version it had to give me a better experience than I can get with the originals and some free mods.

I had been planning to pick this up as I wanted to give it a fresh go on "official" servers. My only experience with the originals was around the time the 2015 Battlefront came out and I had a few games with some folk from here one night. I remember not really enjoying it that much and I definitely remembering thinking that without the SW licence it was just a poor version of Battlefield.

But the iffy reception has at the very least delayed when I'll be picking it up. One for a sale I think.

Yeah looks like a cash-grab by the devs/publishers:

The PC version looks completely broken. Many of those issues are not on console thankfully!

The value proposition with this game is much higher for console and especially PS/Switch players (I have it on PS5, no idea on the state of the Switch version).

I have managed to play some online but it's still too broken at the moment - I have only been able to join using quick match rather than using the server browser and the games I've been put into have been mostly bots. I've been having lots of fun offline for the moment though!

That video refers to a modder's work being used, uncredited, in the announcement trailer. Aspyr acknowledged it was an error - that they'd used it as placeholder footage.

The modder's work is in the final game. Still uncredited.

At least the Restored Content never got added for the Switch version of KOTOR 2 so they didn’t have to credit the modders for that, although I can’t remember what the issue was with that, sure it was something about crediting the creators of the mod?

How does this keep happening. It's like when pirated roms get used in official ports, but worse.

I finished the Battlefront II campaign earlier and tried out XL mode. It is very cool just on pure spectacle and exactly the kind of thing I wish the power of new gens was going towards.

Seems they are listening and are working to fix this up. Those are some hefty patch notes. And hopefully there are many more updates to follow.

Sometimes the certification on consoles is really annoying. These are bug fixes for bugs that apparently weren't blockers on certification originally, so what are they even checking?

Mostly the certification process is just to make sure the game loads, doesn't crash every two seconds or doesn't do anything that could potentially brick the system or go against the manufacturers terms. Essentially that the game works on the most basic functional level. It's not a "this game is bug free" check unfortunately.

Right, the time it takes seems disproportionate and causes more problems than it solves

Certification is to check things like console branding, button names etc. It isn't for checking bugs.

So a tip I saw on Reddit, at least for the Switch version, is that Aspyr have done some compression to reduce the file size of the game. But in order to take advantage of that, the game needs a complete reinstall. It now sits at 22GB. Not sure if they could bring it down further, but I'd be glad if they could.

I'm sure they absolutely could, but they won't.

Online has been working a lot more reliably and with full matches for me in the last couple of days, but I'm still often shooting people only for it not to hit - not sure if that's a more fundamental issue with the online.

I've beaten all four Galactic Conquests in singleplayer and just did a second Rebel campaign tonight playing on Elite difficulty now and with the self-imposed challenge of not using any bonuses. It's such a good game mode.

Well, this is fun. Replaying the Battlefront 2 campaign since they restored the ending cutscenes. They somehow still managed to mess it up. After mission complete, the opening cutscene of that mission plays again before immediately playing the ending one. It's not meant to happen, since the subtitles for the ending cutscene appear over the opening one.

EDIT: Agghh! And a single touch of the touchscreen will instantly skip a cutscene, too! Why!

I still have no idea how the games are so large anyway

Sounds like these are slowly being fixed anyway? Still may as well wait and see if they have a May the 4th sale at this point before buying them.

Dang, it's a real shame that these remastered games appear to have very low levels of polish, Rula, as I know that you were really looking forward to them. I hope that they eventually work in a satisfying manner, dude.
