Bar at the bottom isn't just for the show, depending on what your controls are, if I pull back on my left stick you go slower but your lasers are more powerful. Remember to lock on with the left trigger as well.

I've just played it for around forty-five minutes - just some of the training modes and a single player wave-attack.

The presentation is slick and the Star Wars feeling floods through the game; it's fun to hear the familiar sound-effects and see so much original trilogy imagery. I found the opening to be a little stark; I had expected the usual scrolling storyline opening (even though I knew that there isn't a campaign) and things feel a little bare-bones - you're just chucked into a short tutorial. The training modes that I played are simple but - unless I was too busy looking at the impressive graphics rather than reading the on-screen guidance - some things are missed i.e. how do you control your speed in the X-Wing sections (I think you use the left stick) and how are the shields and other stuff used?

Even so, the game has a great feel. It was top fun shooting a few tie fighters down and to run around the hills whilst trying to take out an AT-ST. You can tell that some things have been rushed (the player editor collectibles such as outfts and beards seem pretty dull barring the other races available in the the latter ranking levels) and, at this early stage, I can't imagine having too many repeat plays of the single player games, but I'm hoping that the multiplayer battles are where this will shine. I need to have a few goes and then I hope to see a few GRcadians for online play :toot: .

tl;dr This is a technically impressive title that looks great; single-player modes may prove a little tiring but there is potential for plenty of pick-up-and-play fun in the multiplayer modes.

I've been hovering my curser over enemy ships waiting for a lock to occur. I thought I just wasn't keeping them in view for long enough.
Makes sense. Thanks!

Tips for Fighter Squadron (playing on gamepad):

1. Keep Left trigger pressed almost all the time - this will auto scan for likely targets to lock-on to.
2. Speed control is via Left Joystick - up for fast, down for slow (handy for getting someone on your tail to overshoot you, but be careful they don't just crash into you).
3. D-pad up: this is for escaping missile-locks (Immelman manoeuvre) - doesn't always work, but if you leave it as late as possible after getting a lock-on alert it usually does.
4. AI enemies don't give as many points as actual player enemies (but AI are easier to shoot down).
5. Avoid crashing into hero ships (Millenium Falcon or Slave-1) - this will likely kill you every time.
6. Pay attention to objectives: Objectives mean big points and if successfully completed will often win the game for your team.

I'm pretty good at FS - the only mode I can usually finish halfway up or even higher in the score table at the end of matches (and once - just once - I was actually top!)

I'm Rank 17 (PS4) overall now. It's been tough getting this far. So many deaths. So many priceless fail moments it's beyond parody. :fp: I have to get to Rank 21 to unlock the gun I'm after - it's the one I've noticed most people are using to kill me from across the other side of the maps (can't remember it's name - it's one of the last three guns you have to unlock). Walker Assault is still my favourite FPS mode - can't wait for the new DLC next week, but not sure if it will include Walker Assault for Jakku.

Was using the Jetpack + Pulse Rifle combo last night. It works great for dem sniper kills.

Also my friend found a way of climbing up a high ridge on Endor's Walker Assault and it was wonderful being able to partner spawn on each other into an immediately great position.

Jet pack is great for quickly getting yourself out of sticky situations or if a bombing run is incoming to your location. I've tried to find a way to get on top of AT-ATs - no luck so far. I've seen guys up on top them a few times now, happily sniping away at us plebs running around below.

Also, last night unlocked the 'see enemies through walls' card. Yeah, that's nice.

I'd go through my arguments but there doesn't seem to be any point. For me the game has loads of maps, varied modes, depth to spare and above all is massive amounts of fun to play for hours on end.

Really glad alot of people don't share your opinion because this is now happening:

Of course, we are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon.

Clearly (and rightfully) a sticking point for a lot of people which EA has finally seen how much of an issue this has been. Better late than never but power of the people has worked once again.

Seeing as they have said:

"Star Wars Battlefront is the biggest launch of a Star Wars™ video game ever and is the largest digital launch in the history of EA."

it's hardly fact that the additional free content is due to "people power".

Really? I mean seriously? You think that people complaining changed EA's plans on this...talk about gullible.

Not sure about the timing of any announcements, but there is absolutely no way that free DLC now announced was not already planned for release.

Its just not possible for them to have magic'd up extra content in the time people have been complaining about it. Its physically impossible that it wasn't already planned for development and release this way.

DRIVECLUB managed it just fine.

They give away some planned season pass DLC and make up some new stuff for the season pass people.

Completely different type of game in a completely different situation.

Driveclub launched in a mess, they had no choice but to completely rejig their plans because the game just didn't work at launch. Completely different publishing situation too with it being a 1st/2nd Party game for Sony.

You don't just change your whole preplanned DLC schedule a week after a pretty impressive launch because of some crybabies on the internet. Driveclub they literally had no choice, and Sony were in a position where they had to make the game work. It doesn't track that Battlefront is in any way the same.

It is utterly absurd that you believe EA are not trying to face with Battlefront. The biggest issue this game has had is the lack of maps and the lack of content. No one is doubting the core game, many people, myself included (from the beta), are satisfied with how the game feels and controls but the lack of maps is a huge issue. The games main mode has only four maps, simply unacceptable. I hate the term 'dad gamer' as a term that's been placed on this game, someone who can only play once a week. Sure it's fine for them, but the market has shown this game lacks content.

For some reason you bypassed practically every single review that has mentioned this is an issue, there is a reason this game is sitting around at 75 mark on Metacritic. Are you telling me that EA didn't feel the need to tell people there was going to be free content before the season pass? If we're talking gullible, I'll point the finger back at you. Even if, if, EA had planned free map content but neglected to tell people until after so that they could score some additional subs on the season pass that is just as bad.

With regards to the maps, EA are milking this for every penny it's worth. They are clinging to a soon to be out of date model. Look at Splatoon's model, majority of the maps have been free so not split up the community. Rainbow Six, another that will be supplying free maps to not split the community but this is going off on a tangent here.

The game has a fantastic starting base but the fact you 'don't understand some generally held opinions about this game' means I'm talking to a brick wall.

Floex, I agree with you, but no need to be so angry. Yes, the game is paltry in terms of maps as things stand. And, yes, EA are definitely going to milk the franchise for all its worth and it's all a bit distasteful. But if HSH28 feels okay with the game that's cool. There is a good selection of modes within what's available, but - definitely - things could be a good deal better. Free DLC is a good thing, but the cost of the Season Pass (basically the cost of buying the game a second time) is a slap in the face and really does smack of sheer greed.

It's a poisoned chalice of a game and while the quality of what is there at retail is undeniably good and really serves Star Wars fans like me with all the fan service I was looking for, I just wish it didn't come with such an aggressive marketing plan.

It's an imperfect situation and I'm just as unhappy about that as you.

I haven't bypassed it, I not only completely disagree with it. I think its flat out objectively wrong. Its close to being a blatant lie.

The game simply doesn't have a single 'main mode' and far from having 4 maps, I've counted past 15 of them. There are both more maps and more distinct modes than in almost any other online shooter out there.

This is why I posted that I don't understand these opinions...they seem to be based on 'facts' that are flat out wrong.
