I caved and bought the standard edition on PSN for £29.99. I still muck about with the first game from time to time, and I wouldn't say I hated it, so I figured with the price reduction on the new game, now would be as good as any time to pick it up. Downloading now. Something to distract me over the Christmas break. I'm not expecting great things from the game - just some good-looking (and sounding) Star Wars vibes and tons of pretty mindless shooty nonsense.

Progression is rubbish but the game itself is great.

I saw Star Wars the Last Jedi yesterday - strawberry float me! :fp: .

Anyway the game is £30 quid and I'm feeling kind of tempted to pick it up. Putting aside all the internet-hate for the loot box crap, is the single player game an enjoyable experience. I don't play much online but is that fairly enjoyable?

All the reviews said no from what I've seen, if you want a shallow dip in and out multiplayer game it's good though.

Yep, there is, though dogfights are pretty much to be expected as well. And thanks!

Generally, defending forces always have the same set of objectives, so that should make things a good bit easier. Just look for the enemy, maybe get to know their objectives if you're on a new map, and try to kill as many of them as you can. If it's possible, focus on enemies attacking those objectives, be it a bomber squadron or a stationary target - they will often be reluctant to break off once they've honed in on it. A.I. bombers won't break away under fire, either, so they can die pretty fast. Defending forces usually have an advantage, due to their objectives being pretty much "kill the other side" it seems, but not always.

If you see and want to kill Darth Maul, his ship is likely to cloak before long, so try to get in some hits before he can. Then, after he cloaks, you can continue targeting him by following and shooting the "beginning" of his smoke trail! Assuming you don't get killed or lose it in the heat of battle, or in some weather effect or debris. His Scimitar ship is pretty cumbersome, so he can be easy to outmaneuver compared to, say, Vader.

I enjoyed it. It doesn't do anything new or exciting in the genre, but it has solid level design and as a Star Wars fan has some very nice surprises. The story is a decent bridge between the original trilogy and the new films too. It's not very challenging so I would say play it on hard if you do give it a go.

DICE and Criterion are keen on Clone Wars Light Side heroes Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, and Dark Side heroes Asajj Ventress, Cad Bane and Embo (the latter would be the only Dark Side bowcaster user, with a hat that doubles as a shield and a snowboard, like Link's shield). Can't say I'd be unhappy if any of them showed up! Would love to see them all, in fact.

Let's also get Obi-Wan, Captain Rex, General Grievous and Count Dooku in there, too. So many great characters they could pick.

Had a go of the trial; very pretty, a bit shallow but totally playable. This is not a 4/10 game, loot crates or no.

Used around 4 hours of the trial and I've managed to compete just fine with the base characters and through playing and completing challenges have built up enough crafting parts to buy whatever cards I want.

I'm finding this so much fun. I really didn't enjoy Battlefront at all but this seems so much better at telling the player what they should be doing and most importantly the shooting feels so much better.

I like how half the star cards for the ground soldiery exist solely to reduce cool-down timers for abilities, rather than buffing their raw power with each upgrade. So, say, the explosive sentry, or the overcharged sentry, are always going to be so powerful, no matter if you've only been playing for an hour or six months - the only difference is if you've got the fully powered up card, you'll have like 5 seconds shaved off the cool-down, assuming someone doesn't blast you while you're actively using the card - and they might.

The Ion Turret ability, by the way, is excellent. :datass: Really good at frustrating snipers across the map.

Versio's not a bad character to use - the TL-50 she wields has the secondary fire unlocked right from the get-go, making her devastating in tight spaces, like Hoth's second phase.

Looks like the Sequel DLC Season is finally coming to a close, with the last couple of challenges being hero-centric - defeat 50 heroes etc. I got the Finn Epic Crate earlier today after spending a good couple of hours in Heroes vs Villains mode, racking up dem kills (or dying trying). God damn Finn is a quality non-Jedi hero - many a Sith was brought low this day, mainly thanks to his reet good Deadeye ability. :datass: It helps when the enemy is being distracted by other heroes, though. Finn doesn't last long when two or three Sith focus on him. :shifty:

I wish they'd included more season goals to encourage Heroes vs Villains play, as it seems to have been the most ignored mode of all up to now, but it can be pretty damn fun. Hopefully they'll add a few more in for the next season. Speaking of seasons, it looks like Clone Wars might be the next one up, perhaps featuring Anakin Skywalker as a light side hero, and the Attack on the Jedi Temple as one of the new maps:

I can think of so many good heroes, villains and battlefields for the prequel era - there's easily three or four seasons' worth of content they could go with.

On the light side...

Ahsoka Tano
Anakin Skywalker (w/ three skins)
Captain Rex (w/ two skins)
ARC Trooper Fives (w/ ground & space variants)
Hondo Ohnaka
Obi-Wan Kenobi (w/ three skins)
Mace Windu

And on the dark side...

Asajj Ventress
Cad Bane
Darth Sidious (RotS variant w/ lightsaber)
General Krell
Darth Tyranus
Embo
General Grievous

And there are a ton of worlds/battlefields they could visit:

Abregado
Bothawui
Cato Neimoidia
Christophsis
Coruscant (Jedi Temple, Senate, and The Battle of)
Felucia
Geonosis
Mandalore
Mygeeto
Umbara
Utapau
Saleucami

Admiral Trench would make a pretty good alternative battlefield commander voice to the average Tactical Droid, too.

The Last Jedi Season is now over - congrats to the First Order. I tried to kill you, but you just killed me more.

A great big patch dropped yesterday.

What's new? Protagonist Iden Versio's ship has joined the game as a Hero Starfighter (you'll need 5,000 credits to unlock it) and the 10-on-10 Blast mode is now playable on the The Last Jedi's Crait.

Alongside the official patch notes, there's also a running list of undocumented changes assembled by reddit user Tactical_Turtle12. The main point of interest is probably that DICE has lowered the milestones for weapon and weapon mod unlocks. Otherwise, it's nothing too out of the ordinary.

Patch 1.1

We’re expanding the ways you can play on Crait by bringing this map to the Blast Game Mode! Battle in the mines among the machinery and crystals leftover from the previous occupants.

Advanced Capacitors - Improves the primary weapons resistance to overheating
Repair Systems - Reduces the delay before health regeneration begins
Elite Pilot - Increases the turn rate of the starfighter

Fixed an issue where each sector on the minimap would not light up properly the first time an enemy fired
Reduced fade in time for a minimap sector from 0.3 to 0.1 seconds
Stability improvements
Misc. bug fixing

Looking forward to seeing how all the changes impact the game - particularly the AT-STs now appearing on Jakku and Takodana (Phase 1 only), which could totally change the way those matches are played. The MTT, AT-AT and AT-M6 health being dropped should see more Republic, Rebel and Resistance wins earlier on in certain maps, too. Not that I mind rounds going to the end - fighting can get very intense.

The most noticeable changes to me were Crait in Blast, Iden's TIE as an unlockable Starfighter Hero, Tatooine at night, the milestone completions being called out in battle, and the reduced requirements for unlocking weapon upgrades.

Boba Fett and the Wookiee Warrior being nerfed isn't any great surprise, they were both somewhat overpowered.

Footage of a rumored 'Sentinel' reinforcement class (ARC Troopers all but confirmed, maybe Commando Droids too etc?) in early testing for Battlefront II. I assume they'll replace the Wookiee Warrior on some of the Clone Wars maps, unless DICE is planning on increasing reinforcements per side from 2 to 3 or 4 on all maps.

Finally got enough crafting parts to boost Supercharged Sentry to epic last week.

With this patch they nerfed it. Absolute waste of fecking time.

I don't think you wasted those crafting parts, it's still a decent move.

I'm not going to be trying to Epic any of my cards until I've unlocked the base level cards for all classes and heroes, and I've only got the hero starships left to go.

Hoping for some news on the next Season soon. We've got months until Solo, so I figure there's easily enough time for a solid Clone Wars Season with weeks to spare before the Solo Season hits.

I've learned my lesson now just going to get them up to the 3rd level from now on. Trying to buff a few of my hero's at the moment.

Imagine Clone Wars will have a Geonosis map. Can see Anakin, Obi-Wan, Dooku and Grievous as heroes. With Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter and Jango's Slave 1 as ships.

Naboo and Coruscant for Starfighter Assault.

The supercharged sentry is trash now. Ive dropped the card for the normal sentry. Funnily enough i got the purple super charged sentry from the first order win pack. That was a total waste until it gets buffed.

I guess that if new heroes are added they will cost 5000-10000 credits. I'll wait for an announcement before i start saving.

Yup, plan now is boost up my personal shield and just use the normal sentry. Mainly only used the supercharged sentry to take down AT-ATs.

Can't see them using Naboo as a Starfighter Assault map TBH, it'd be way too similar to Ryloth, unless they remove the Separatists and make it an Episode 1-themed map with Naboo N-1s taking on the Droid Control Ship alone. If they go that route, I'd love to see a proper Battle of Naboo ground map too, with Gungans going up against the Trade Federation in a pitched battle.

I'm thinking Cato Neimoidia will be more likely, but if we only get one ground and one space map, it's probably going to be Geonosis and Coruscant.

I see Grievous with his starfighter as being much more likely to feature as a space hero than another Slave 1, especially given that the seismic charges Jango used are already part of Boba Fett's arsenal. Then again though, we do have two Millennium Falcons, so there is always the chance we might see Jango come into play.

I figure it'll be Anakin & Grievous in space, Obi-Wan and Dooku on the ground, and if they add another hero mid-season (like Tallie Lintra was), maybe we could see Ahsoka or Ventress.

Also, just realized that the upcoming Sentinel class probably won't use Commando Droids for the Separatists, not when Destroyer Droids can be used instead.
