I think it is one thing when the loot boxes are cosmetic and the main game is ok - like Overwatch. But the Battlefront 2 issue moves it towards gambling in my view - you are asking for money for the chance of progression, just like the thousands of mobile games that try and leech children's pocket money.

If we stop buying it, it would stop happening. I'm staying clear of this now, despite really liking Star Wars and the first game.

Basically their AAA budgets have got so out of control that sales are never enough now. They need a decent "tail" of ongoing income from DLC etc

The idea that Microtransactions and F2P economies are necessary because of increased development costs has been well and truly debunked.

It has?

There's more than a few videos out there discussing it, particularly from Jim Sterling.
You've also got things like Hellblade showing it's perfectly possible to create something akin to a AAA experience on a fraction of the budget games like CoD and Battlefield work with. Half of the problem isn't even development costs, it's the absurd marketing costs.

So it's been so well and truly debunked you can't even say why that's the case by citing a single fact or figure.

Its not something any studio is going to admit to really, however it only seems to be the massive billion-dollar entertainment mega-conglomerates like EA, WB etc. who play the 'starving artist 'card whenever they get challenged on this. Plus after the superbunnyhop video about how such companies use tax avoidance loopholes to make absurd amounts of money, a video with evidence and documentation shown, i have no sympathy for them either way.

This is the real sticking point for me.

You would perhaps be a tiny bit more tolerant to it all if these budgets actually led to well designed competitive innovative and high quality games, and the MTs were kept to cosmetics, Overwatch being a prime example. Not that that game had a particularly huge budget.

I do feel for certain developers though, injustice 2 filled the entire meat of their main single player mode with loot boxes and added a platinum killer trophy in obtaining one of rarest abilities as bait to spend real money. They were praised for creating an excellent new single player mode and becoming "the destiny of beat em ups" and Ed Boon was left laughing all the way to the bank smelling of roses. Forza 7 tries a similar thing which really isn't pay to win and while it's needless, only the very impatient are going to make use of their model, yet they are panned for it.

The message from the community and press is not always consistent.

I felt a great disturbance in the Market, as if millions of shareholders suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

I’m not trying to put down that chart, but the recent drop is relatively small. In January the shares were around 80 dollars and now they’re 108 dollars.

Arcade Mode is a strawberry float ton better than the singleplayer scenarios in BF2015.

Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault are excellent, at least compared to the Walker Assault mode of the last outing; varied objectives, intense battles, cool battlefield locations etc. My only issue is that I loved the space-then-ground multi-stage levels of the last game, and they seem to be absent here. Hope they're working on a special hybrid game mode (part GA, part SA) with new maps, but I doubt it. Haven't tried Heroes vs Villains or Blast yet, but I expect they're good fun too.

They had a bigger percentage drop in the same period last year.
