As we want to let players earn Credits offline via a more relaxed game mode, we needed to also find a way to make sure it wouldn't be exploited in a way that would impact Multiplayer. Because of that we made the decision to limit the number of Credits earned to stop potential abuse.

As with all EA games, I will be waiting for a year until it shows up on EA Access.

When does the EA Star Wars deal run out again?

Surely Disney can give out the rights to any publisher to use any one or more of its licenses at any time?

I'm pretty sure EA has all Star Wars game rights, where as the Marvel rights are being granted to developers on a game by game basis.

If you search "gambling" on twitter, Disney is one of the top gambling twitter accounts which I can't imagine they're too happy about. If things like that continue then I could see the rights being taken away as some kind of breach of contract/brand damage or something.

I guess the narrative is now that players can only derive enjoyment from getting credit rewards and unlocking new stuff?

Bit of a circular argument when the main thing everyone lost their gooseberry fool over was that you have to unlock stuff in the game by earning credits

EA have the video game rights, FFG have the board/card game rights.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Surely Disney can just give more rights away? I mean, it's not as if they only have one "You can make Star Wars games now kthx" card in their wallet. It's infinite use, right?

It'll be like the rights for Football matches...

EA likely paid god knows how much to secure the Star Wars licence from competitors and have the right for X amount of years, at which point everyone gets to bid on those rights again. People like you get to pay for that licence through the different editions, season passes and micro transactions.

They'll be clauses (financial penalties) in the contract so Disney can't let a competitor like Activision make a Star Wars game, and again they'll be protections for Disney if EA did something that broke the contract

Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive are entering into a multi-year, multi-title exclusive licensing agreement with Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games aimed at the core gaming audience and spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets.

How do the Lego Star Wars games fit into that? Aren't they published by WB?

Interesting question, I've tried looking it up

https://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpinch ... 6484822c75

This is an exclusive contract, so no other videogames company can put its eggs in the Star Wars basket.

Disney, however, will retain its rights to develop new games for the “mobile, social, tablet, and online” market, in other words, casual games on Facebook and games for iOS and Android. It’s not clear if this marks the end of hugely popular themed games with other companies like Angry Birds: Star Wars (Rovio) or the LEGO Star Wars (Traveller's Tales) series (the most recent of which, LEGO Star Wars: Yoda Chronicles, was released two days ago, May 4)

I imagine they made some distinction about the lego star wars games not being 'core' star wars games because of the LEGO branding - but that's a guess.

Microtransactions are now going to be removed from the game entirely. Unlocks are purely through in-game progression.

http://mp1st.com/news/star-wars-battlef ... rogression

It seems Crystals, the in-game currency that can be bought by real-world money, is off the table! All Star Cards, Heroes, and game-changing items can only be obtained by natural progression (grinding)! When DICE mentioned that a “progression iteration” was incoming at launch, we never thought it’d be this big, but we’ll take it with open arms.
