Meanwhile, the original Battlefront 2 is having its multiplayer component put back in place in both the GoG.com and Steam versions.

Pre-Beta Takodana gameplay, complete with Wookiee and First Order Flametrooper reinforcement gameplay (Strike mode):

Looks gorgeous.

Beta download sizes aren't as big as feared:

On PC, the download is the biggest at 22.8GB, compared to 15.3GB on PS4, and 13.2GB on Xbox One.

Just done a few rounds on each mode, and yeah I cant stand it. It really feels like nothing you do has much effect you die, spawn, die. I do like the point system they replaced the pick ups with, but I really did not find it fun at all, space battles were especially disappointing, it is odd as it feels like a big upgrade over the first. I liked that at first then grew to hate it, and everything I hated about it is still present in this

Had a go at the Beta myself tonight, doing several rounds in each mode. Some observations:

- Galactic Assault is pretty fun and very intense at times, but I have terrible luck using aerial reinforcements. I seem to do best as an Assault Droid or a Rocket Trooper. It's kind of lovely to hear the Clones talking.
- Starfighter Assault is really strawberry floating hard when playing as the Rebels. Of the dozen or so rounds I played, only once did the Rebels get to the Coupling stage of the battle. Those shield generators. :dread:
- The Y-Wing and TIE Bomber are absolutely wonderful additions to the game (the TIE is especially godly - hope it doesn't get nerfed), but in the narrow confines of the Shield Generator area of the shipyard, the TIE is an absolute liability, while the Y-Wing is a necessity due to the amount of damage it inflicts.
- The A-Wing and TIE Interceptor are better than ever. Haven't played them very much, though.
- Kill Assists in Starfighter Assault! :toot:
- Turbolaser batteries and both Imperial and Rebel cruisers actually target the enemy and do solid damage, rather than just sitting there doing strawberry float all. :toot:
- I am terrible at playing with hero ships.
- Strike mode is hard for both sides, but much easier for the Resistance to win. I'm very fond of playing the officer on Takodana.
- Disappointed in how little damage the Flametrooper does - if you're on fire, you should be melting and dying. Needs re-balancing to really make it worth those 3,000 battle points.

Not DICE's fault that Battle Droids are sandy brown and that Theed is also a sandy brown color - but if you're paying attention, you can see the droids' movement. Maybe they could've chosen a better map location, or added something to the Clones' UI that lets them more easily identify and target the droids, but the location is pretty iconic, and I can see why it'd be included. No idea why there's aerial combat there though, you can't see anyone to strafe on the ground except the droids' MTT, and invariably the opposition in the sky is going to kill you quite quickly. I think that they possibly should've saved it for an Episode I-themed DLC, or even a new mode without clones of any description.

Really enjoying the Starfighter Assault mode. Far, far better controls and handling than BF2015, every ship feels powerful in its own right, and I'm starting to see Rebel assaults come together and win now as well.

It seems like more of the same which isn't a terrible thing but I'm still sceptical as to how much I'll be able to dip into it over time if the loot boxes make it pay to win. I was very hyped for this but, between the microtransactions and how busy the next few months are, I think that Odyssey and Xenoblade will be the only* two launch day purchases me for the rest of the year.

The framerate seems quite inconsistent on the PS4 Slim which stops it looking as spectacular as the trailers, especially during big explosions. Hopefully that'll improve by launch but that's another thing putting me off jumping in immediately.

If they're anything like the crates you can buy with in-game currency, it'll be more pay to be frustrated than pay to win. The loot is random, so even if you can buy a rare tier loot box, you might very well end up with stuff that's useless to you, depending on your preferred play style, game modes etc. There's no telling what you'll get.

Worst thing so far to me is the Republic's LAAT Gunship reinforcement, which is cheap as chips (400 battle points) and feels like you're armed with a useless laser pointer that shouts "Look at me! I'm a target!"

Multiplayer is pretty boring and not very well balanced. You can destroy the leaderboard with the droids and struggle to get a kill with the clones.

Might pick it up when it's in the bargain bin if the single player reviews well. I imagine that's going to be much the same as multiplayer though but with cutscenes :(

It's a no from Joe

He hits the nail on the head with why I found it so boring. There's no bots running around to make it feel like a battle, instead you'll see only a handful of other players (at best) at any one time, usually empty streets though.

And the weapons are ridiculous. I thought you got the weapons and attachments randomly from the crates (which would have been gooseberry fool, but I guess no different to levelling up) but it turns out you need to collect a currency from the crates (randomly) to buy new weapons and parts :fp: :fp: :fp: the time it will take is horrifying :dread:

I only played a few matches before switching it off so I only opened the two starter crates. I got a few cards and some scrap currency you use to increase the power of the cards and to buy weapons. Joe and his crew played for hours and got the same as me. Maybe the weapon unlocks are extremely rare and you got lucky?

You need around 600 scrap to unlock a gun which you seem to get randomly in quantities of 10 and 20. Apparently it took 5 hours to get a crate, so divide the 600 weapon cost by 20 (let's be really generous and assume every single crate you get had scrap in and it was in a qty of 20)... that's 30 crates needed, multiply by 5 hours and that's 150 hours to get a weapon. Then you need to upgrade it

Also it doesn't matter if your idle in a game or have the best score of the match, you get the same reward from the game

I'm sure I got "common" weapons for 2 classes in a crate - didn't change though

I'm 99% chum I'm playing with got a Specialist Drop, equipped it and didn't like.

But yeah there also seemed to be guns you can craft. I got 20 of the currency you talk about. Maybe they're rare drops, and also you can craft (Eventually) if you're RNG is terribad?

Loot boxes YEAH!

Weapons feel like youre strawberry floating pissing at an enemy, the droids blend into the scenery completely in the demo map while the storm troopers stand out like a sore thumb, just like BF1 its spawn die spawn die spawn die endlessly, in fact is felt just like a BF1 star wars mod. DICE just don't know how to make enjoyable shooters nowadays. Absolutely strawberry floating dreadful.

Rumours of a Pay to win card system too just to further annoy you. ;)

BF1 is god tier though, leave it out of this! :x

Just watched that vid.... it is pretty depressing how the “big” video games are turning out now; loot boxes and payments are becoming integral to game progresssion. Ah, well, the only thing that could stop - or, realistically, slightly alter - the approach that publishers are taking is to not buy into it. So, as with that new Mordor game, I won’t buy this title until it is hugely discounted.

Erm, It's Shadow of War, Mordor isn't in the title but I'll let you away with it. ;)

Loot boxes in this seem FAR worse cos it enhances mp. :dread:

I'll play this xmas 2018 when it'll go up on EA Access.

To be honest, I'm a bit taken aback by a mp game having this mechanic, I mean the God Tier BF1 (shutty Brer) has loot boxes but they are simply cosmetic, same with Gears, Halo etc. When did we cross the line into this kinda wankery?
