When they decided to make the third most expensive game ever and realised they need a way to make some money back?

It's literally based on the IMDB page, so no idea :P

As always with videogaming, a few people test the water and introduce a system - in this case maybe UT packs in FIFA, or loot boxes in Overwatch, or Eververse in Destiny - and then the rest of the industry notice it, realise it's a ridiculously easy way to make money and then start seeing how far they can push it.

It's why all three consoles are going to have pay-to-play online subs. Why there are about 50 different pre-order exclusives for big games and why we now have £40 season passes at launch.

A game isn't just done at launch and then you get your income from sales. Games are now designed as products that can bring in cash throughout their lifespan. Why restrict yourself to 90% of your income coming in those first few weeks at launch when you can partition bits off and monetize them.

Tried the demo yesterday. Still hate the gameplay (the very definition of pointless tedium, imo), but the space battles looked good (if still irritating).

I'm out. Not again.

Some people might be aware I quite liked the first one.

I've got no real interest in this. Just not interested in the prequel era.

Might pick it up in a sale.

I should probably play some more of the first one before this comes out before people move on.

Jim Sterling's getting a lot of mileage out of this gambling transaction nonsense from this year

Just watched that vid and I pretty much agree with the guy. Buying a “AAA” game now often means splashing out close to £90; the “standard edition” at “only” £55 is often the entry level product. I foresee the next step as being a monthly charge for games as they increasingly become “services”... I reckon FIFA and CoD could soon “offer” such schemes to customers.
The only way to get new abilities and weapons in Battlefront 2 is from opening loot crates... in other words, Battlefront 2 - a full-priced game - is pay to win... Put simply, this is an exploitative and greedy system I'm surprised has made it this far.
Blimey. Eurogamer aren’t too impressed with EAs approach, either.

Just tried this and what an immense pile of shite.

I felt like my weapons did strawberry float all damage while at the same time I got killed by the enemy pretty much instantly and the fact I couldn't see the enemy outside 99% of the time made for a frustrating time.

Pay to win is different.

I'm not fussed about MTs. They're a thing that exists and aren't going to go away any time soon. In some cases they're perfectly fine, in others not so much. However, having a pay to win system in a full price game akin to that found in f2p mobile games is pushing it somewhat.

EA really should reverse this decision before the game is launched. Not that I'm interested in SWB 2 as the demo was pants, but for those who are it's a pretty poor environment to get sucked in to.

Within the next few weeks...

The lootbox system is still currently being balanced to offer players choice and the system in the beta was not final etc etc

Please have a good campaign please have a good campaign

The reception to the beta seems lukewarm at best, but the game still clearly nails the visuals and sound of the Star Wars universe so the appeal is still very much there for me. I really want to read some campaign impressions.

Hopefully it will have a 10 hour trial on Origin access to give the full game a worthy bash if it's anything like BF1 and the previous Battlefront then I'm out.

The Beta was pretty average.

Wii U : punkeator
Xbox live : darksideby182
Psn : darksideby182
steam : Punkeator
Origin : Punkeator

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017- ... te-problem

Sums it up. Here's the money quote:

It gets worse when you consider there are bronze, silver, and gold versions of each Star Card - plus a fourth tier I'm not sure the name of. For instance, Boba Fett has a Star Card ability called Death From Above which grants him damage reduction while jetpacking and using Rocket Barrage. Its lowest tier damage reduction (bronze) is 50 per cent, and it's highest tier 100 per cent. That's a huge difference.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
