It's being called a "climb down," but for the life of me I can't figure out how it's any different to what they said right after the Beta was done.

Edit:

Sounds like an actual improvement after all. Seems like the crates you buy with real money are just going to be generic crates, with all the good stuff (most of the weapons, too) unlocked by playing the game - reaching level and class milestones etc.

The EA/Origin Access trial is out now. 51GB on XB1. Sounds like it's the opening 3 campaign levels plus full MP.

Haven't watched much of the final gameplay, but Kashyyyk looks like a great map - true to the RotS battle scenes on the world, too.

Mos Eisley looks top fun, as well:

Shame you can't ride Dewbacks or Banthas around.

Just say no to pay to win.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

They had a damage control guy from DICE on Angry Joes show (sell out).

Not much new from the interview (DICE “this offers choice”, Joe “I can’t really be honest here or I’ll lose my interview”)

but sales must be low if they’re trying to convince people these loot crates are a “nothing to see here” thing

Free DLC inc new campaign levels out 13th December -

Things kick into high gear on December 13. Your favorite stormtrooper-turned-hero Finn joins the fight for the Resistance and Captain Phasma steps on to the Battlefront for the First Order. They can be purchased with in-game Credits that week. Whichever faction is victorious in completing the most challenges that week will net a reward as well: a special Crate of high-power upgrades for Finn or Captain Phasma.

New locations and vehicles will also arrive. On December 13, the cinematic content from Star Wars™: The Last Jedi continues with a new planetary map: Crait. The Starfighter Assault map of D’qar will join as well, plus a new hero ship – Tallie Lintra's RZ-2 A-wing. Poe Dameron’s T-70 X-wing is also upgraded with a new ability inspired by Star Wars™: The Last Jedi .

Iden Versio returns. In Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II Resurrection, you’ll join Commander Iden Versio during the days of the First Order’s rise to power. These new chapters of Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II’s single-player story mode will be available December 13.

This is Star Wars and so, by default, I should be really interested in the game. It seems impossible not to feel wary about this, though - I can’t recall a “big” game gaining so much of a negative vibe before release. In my eyes that feeling is justified due to the concerns around loot boxing and I’m really keen to hear what reviewers say about this in their verdicts.

Free campaign DLC is cool.

The pay to win sounds ridiculous, but at the moment I think I'm sold on the game for the campaign, local co-op and bot battles.

I'm going to get it as my christmas game, hopefully with a bit of a saving over BF. I know last year some games that had just been out a week saw decent discounts. Not overly bothered about the loot box stuff, as I don't think I'm competitive enough to really be bothered by it. I mainly want to play the campaign and then the occasional multiplayer game.

I’m going to get this for Christmas. I’m happy with the campaign side of things and local co op. Although I will attempt online multiplayer I’ve never been that good at it and have no interest in spending extra money on things and will not invest the time in earning any power ups myself.

Is it campaign co-op or just some shite horde mode?

EDIT: Trying to load the game up to see what the campaign's actually like. 90% downloaded, and that's the fourth time I've tried to start it and it's crashed because "For some reason STAR WARS Battlefront II has taken too long to start"

I like how helpful these error messages are. Not sure why the "Report a Problem" menu doesn't seem to actually know what you want to report, too. I'm not scrolling through a list of all 180 games I've got installed to report that Battlefront claims it's ready to play when it isn't.

Finally managed to load, and everything is LOCKED but Arcade. Typical. Font is embarassingly small again, too. I'm flabbergasted that there still aren't rules about what does and doesn't constitute a suitable interface in these kinds of games. Just feels so lazy.

Disappointing, but expected from EA. Wasn't going to buy the game anyway, but that pretty much confirms it's a "don't bother until it's free". When are we going to get some decent Star Wars games? Surely the era of the arena-based multiplayer shooter has to finish soon? They're so... dull.

Included in the article is also a video of XfactorGaming who bought a big pack of Crystals and spent it all on loot boxes, getting himself right out of the gate a lvl 14 Interceptor which, in his words:

Wow, sounds amazing. What a game changer. :|

There's always an ingame currency, one which happens to take just long enough to accrue to make opening your wallet an appealing prospect.
