I can't find a good sweet spot for the flight controls at the moment :dread: They're way too slow to begin with and then suddenly it'll whip round and I'll crash into a blockade runner. Would be pretty decent if I could sort these controls out.

Combat feels way too similar to Andromeda, even down to the "DEFEND THE ROBOT WHILE IT HACKS THIS CONSOLE" sections...

EDIT: That's all three levels in the trial done. It's okay. Slightly too many run-through-this-rebel-ship-while-shooting-everything sections, but the flying bits are fun. Not sure why they seemed to have copied Gears of War with the "Let the player walk around while they can't actually do anything as the characters discuss the what-happens-next plan with the guys back at base" bits, too. Are cutscenes that you can walk around in better than just regular cutscenes? Either way you can't do anything.

Wow, sounds amazing. What a game changer. :|

Cards are supposed to be level locked, so maybe he was already a level 14 on the Interceptor class? I've not heard of any loot crate content that actually levels up for you.

There's always an ingame currency, one which happens to take just long enough to accrue to make opening your wallet an appealing prospect.

If you've got a clinical addiction maybe.

I do understand why people don't like paying more once a game has been paid for but I think the actual impact on multiplayer games is way overblown. Do people think it's more fair/enjoyable if the person that kills you in a multiplayer game spawned closer to a better weapon, has unlocked better stuff, etc. The obvious answer would be that you don't mind getting killed by someone who is genuinely superior but how do people know? What if someone has a better connection or spawned in an advantageous location? Is the only way to be fair for everyone to have the same weapon? Is it any more fun to play a game getting crushed by people who've played than by someone who's decided to buy a loot box?

I just feel like every multiplayer game will have detractors
say it's not balanced and have issues with something. Just give games a try and see if you enjoy them, I've managed to play CoD, Battlefield, Titanfall and Halo and somehow I've managed to avoid paying for loot boxes.

Human beings are hard-wired to respond better to irregular rewards, this is basic behavioural psychology we have known about since at least the 1950s - these blind box systems tap into that to foster and promote addictive behaviours and tendencies; all to the benefit of EA's and others' bottom line and nothing else.

Good for you, but that should come with the tacit understanding that players who don't engage in these systems are there to keep the players who do buy them interested and buying more. Its like airline seats; companies would totally fill up planes with first/business class if they could but that's unsustainable so all the "normal" seats are there to fill up the space on the plane - Activision's latest patent shows how much the balance has shifted. Games like Quake 3, Team Fortress and Counterstrike had none of this stuff and were absolute classics - we don't need lootboxes and all this gooseberry fool to have a good time but companies like EA and Activision have changed the narrative to such a point that it is now the norm, and that is sad (also hi Buff).

Enjoying irregular rewards doesn't mean most people are buying loot boxes. Even if they are, are you worried about the affect on the game or the individual?

Way to cut out the most significant portion of my post. Those games were no more enjoyable than modern games.

Downloaded and liked what I've played so far. Runs buttery smooth on Ultra (DX12 Res Scaling off) and looks lovely. Now to decide on PC or PS4, which I had the first game on.

Buttery smooth, you say? :o

Data mining has revealed a variety of Clone Trooper skin variants, including the 501st (Anakin/Cpt. Rex), 212th Attack Battalion (Obi-Wan/Cmdr Cody), the 104th "Wolf Pack" (Plo Koon/Cmdr Wolffe) and the 187th (Mace Windu/Cmdr Ponds).

I hope they're level-specific, rather than unlockable, TBH.

Question for the people who have early access - The arcade mode is the bot mode, does it have all the game types as multi or is it very limited?

Also If i pay an extra £20 to get the elite trooper edition will all the star cards be fully upgraded or just a few? (EDIT - looking at the graphic on the amazon website you get just one epic ability and one weapon upgrade for each class?)

Looks like you get one epic ability upgrade for each trooper class, two epic hero cards for Rey, another two for Kylo Ren, and a further two for Starfighters. Also, exclusive skins for Kylo Ren and Rey, and TLJ's variant of the Millennium Falcon, which presumably you can toggle on or off.

Amazon wrote:Pre-order the Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition and receive a range of bonuses, including:

Access to play Star Wars Battlefront II on November 14—a 3-day head start (If Amazon can be bothered to deliver their pre-orders on-time.)
Upgraded (Read: partially leveled up?) versions of all 4 trooper classes (Officer, Assault, Heavy, and Specialist)
4 epic ability upgrades—one for each trooper class (Not sure if random or pre-determined.)
Exclusive Star Wars: The Last Jedi outfits for Kylo Ren and Rey
Instant access to six hero and starfighter epic Star Cards:
  • Kylo Ren: Power Reach and Solid Freeze
  • Rey: Far Sight and Deep Mind
  • Starfighters: Enhanced Auxiliary Power and First Order ship upgrade
Instant access to Star Wars : The Last Jedi Millennium Falcon with updated sounds and appearance

If you’re playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 this week you’d better be prepared to grind.

According to data analysis on Reddit of hours played by fans, on average it will take 40 hours to earn enough credits – 60,000 – to buy a single hero in the game.

According to EA that’s because it wants you to unlock heroes such as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker as a sense of accomplishment, but many fans feel that they will have to spend hours grinding or buy into the shady loot box economy.

As pointed out in our breakdown of Battlefront 2’s convoluted rewards system, the most popular heroes in the game can be awarded via Star Cards, but they still need the required credits to unlock and use them.

Players can also earn credits from optional challenges and rewards in-game, which can be put towards buying new heroes. Not all heroes are as expensive as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker’s 60,000 asking price, with Princess Leia and Chewbacca going for 40,000 credits, and Iden Versio the cheapest at 20,000 credits.

“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes,” said EA in a statement posted on Reddit.

But the grind is made all the more of a slog when you consider those same credits used to unlock heroes are also required to unlock loot crates. To lock away this content in a game players have already paid full price for is a step too far for those with limited time.

“We’re constantly evaluating and tweaking the earn rates versus the cost of crates and heroes,” said EA. “The current rates were based on open beta data, but you should expect us to constantly evolve these numbers as we hit launch and onwards.

“There will also be more milestones that award credits and crafting parts available, as well as star cards only unlockable through those milestones. If all you want to do is play and grind towards your next unlock that will be fully possible and we’ll continue to tweak the numbers until the requirements feel fun and achievable.”

Players can buy Crystals for in-game currency, but EA suggests these can’t be used to unlock heroes. However, as pointed out by fans, you could buy Crystals for real cash, buy loot boxes, break down any duplicate star cards for credits, and then use those credits towards unlocking heroes.

This is a quicker route to unlocking the most popular villains and heroes from the Star Wars franchise, for those that are willing to pay more on top of the full-priced game.

Apparently the review versions people played had heroes to purchase for 10k not 60k

It's not uncommon for review copies to have cheaper unlocks for the sake of progressing quicker, but in this instance it definitely reflects badly on EA. In addition to everything else, which is a complete mess

I hope they do more than just lower it by an hour or two and hope it blows over. I'm not touching the game because it's a free model in a paid game but I'd like them to make a meaningful change so other publishers at least think about things, if only for a little while.

Doubt it, though. We'll get a token gesture, people will get bored of moaning be told to move on to the next thing and it'll sell boatloads regardless because Star Wars.

I was so pumped for this game, and yet it's been nothing bit bad PR after bad PR for weeks now, if not months.

At 40 hours to unlock a hero, I guess I'm never unlocking any heroes (okay yes I know that's the most expensive)

Level progression in multiplayer games has never been kind to the casual multiplayer player like myself. I don't think there is a single multiplayer game I've ever reached the level cap or prestiged in. 40 hours playing essentially the same thing over and over is an absolute crazy amount of time - if I play this in multiplayer with friends it will probably average to less than an hour a week over a year.

A developer has responded saying it's not play to win. Providing what he says is true, that everything is attainable through gameplay, then how's this different from games that reward you after level progression?
