Suprised at some of the talk on here. Are people really bothered if there's a snow planet or desert planet again?

Also Rogue one was great.

Rogue One Defence Force unite :datass:

I agree, there are only so many planets you can do.

Snow planet - Hoth
Water planet - Kamino
Desert planet - Tatooine
Earthlike planet - Naboo / Takodana
Beach planet - Scarif
Jungle planet - Dagobah
Lava planet - Mustafar

That basically covers everything. You could go full on weird with something like No Man's Sky, but that would presumably require tons of CGI and would clash in a lot of ways with the Star Wars aesthetic

That was a bit disappointing but they were never going to top "Chewie, we're home".

What I assume is the Resistance base in the trailer looks old as the hills. It'd be great if it had a bunch of old Clone Wars-era military hardware - battle droid parts, defunct vehicles, old clone armor or whatever. Since Force Awakens didn't have all that much in the way of references to past events, I'm hoping for a slightly more overt throwback in this.

Maybe I'm burnt out on the sheer amount of blockbuster movies being released every year, but I watched the trailer and was surprised that I came away without the usual excitement I experience where Star Wars is concerned.

Watched it a second time and still felt nothing beyond "meh", which is odd to me given I attended midnight launches for both Force Awakens and Rogue One.

I'll watch the film of course, but right now I'm happy to wait for it to be released on blu ray and watch it at home.

Disney is putting Rian Johnson in charge of the fourth Star Wars trilogy, which is "separate from the episodic Skywalker saga"

twitter.com/starwars/status/928742250510774272

For director Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was just the beginning of his journey in a galaxy far, far away.

Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman onboard to produce.

As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud. In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.

No release dates have been set for the new films, and no porgs were available for comment.

He directed The Last Jedi, so that will be the proof. Disney/LucasFilm wouldn't have given him an entire trilogy if he'd shat the bed though

I'd rather he made is own stuff tbh. I'd rather have more Looper and Brick-likes than have his style watered down by committee.
