No, definitely not. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, have been most of my life and I'll pretty much try anything with the Star Wars label on it (hell, I even bought Episode One: Obi Wan on Xbox) yet I have very little interest in this film and as far as I'm concerned it's just not a film I want. I don't need to know the complex details of how Han met Chewie, or of how Han got the Falcon - the little bits that we do know are already enough for me. That's before we even get into recasting Han and Lando...

I want spin off films which tackle other areas of the Star Wars universe, like the old republic era. If we really must get ones about existing characters I'd much rather they be minor characters who we know little about (like some of the bounty hunters, or members of the Jedi council). It just seems like a totally unnecessary film but saying all this I still know I'll end up going to watch it. :slol:

Completely pointless just like Rogue One. They're telling stories that don't need telling.

I'll still go and see it.

Why is everyone obsessed with the old republic era? It always seemed like the most boring era, completely irrelevant to the extant trilogies.

They have an entire universe to tell stories in yet they continue using the same 6-7 original characters :fp:

There really is no story to tell. I hate hollywoods constant need to make prequels to everything filling in holes that were never there.

How about a story based on the imperial academy, an unknown bounty hunter, prospectors on an unknown planet, a war on a planet we haven't seen yet etc. There are literally thousands of ideas they could pluck from expanded universe and beyond but still they go back to the usual cast as if fans would be unable to accept Star Wars without Han and chewie etc

Completely agree, Han is my second favourite character just after Luke and I have no interest in seeing any back story for him, it's just not necessary.

How about a whole film from a Sith perspective?

An X-Wing VS TIE Fighter movie series could be pretty neat. Perhaps four movies long in total, two would focus on Rogue Squadron (or another Rebel squadron), the other two on an Imperial squadron. The two squadrons become well acquainted over the course of the war, tangling many times.

Alternatively, it could follow two brothers - one who becomes an Ace TIE Pilot, commanding much respect among his peers, rising through the ranks. The other fails to become a great TIE Pilot, crashing during a battle with the Rebels. He gets taken in by the alliance, who think him a defector. He soon realizes his error in fighting for the Empire, and eventually finds himself commanding a notorious rebel ship... when an Imperial strike force, lead by his brother, is tasked with hunting them down. It need not feature any well known Star Wars characters (maybe a Mon Mothma cameo?), but there would be references here and there because heroes do get talked about.

I must be the only person who didn't rate McGregor as Kenobi. Not that he was bad or anything, but I never believed he was doing anything other than putting a funny accent on. Compare his performance to that of his recent showing in Fargo, where I believed his character so much I forgot it was even him.

Maybe it was the direction but McGregor was awful in the prequels.

Still the best character in the prequels, by far, despite the cringey lines Lucas had him say.

Luckily, Lucas isn't involved any longer, and McGregor seems to have come a long way as an actor since Star Wars.

Excitement.

The prequels were full of decent actors giving terrible performances. He was no worse than any of them.

Looking forward to this and very much a case of McGregor or nothing please.
