Everything Wrong With The Last Jedi really spelt out the problems of the story in a way I haven't really seen yet. And in terms of the actual plot - looking at it logically - it does absolutely drag itself out beyond how it should have played out. I can't deny the character interactions are strong, along with the action.

Having watched Solo in a less than half full iMax on opening night I am ready to bet money this does significantly below their expectations. Especially as the film itself is nothing to write home about, its not prequel bad, but it really did not work.

Just got back from Solo. Hooooooly gooseberry fool this is going to bomb so hard. 2 days after a star wars film launches and there were, including us, FOUR people in the cinema :dread:  It's £4.99 a ticket so they made £20 on that showing :fp: On the plus side, it's all the huge recliners with acres of foot room and there was nobody anywhere near us so I was spread out and not a single bit of food was heard being consumed :toot:

My thoughts (big spoilers):
overall I enjoyed it. It had some really bad pacing and was slow to get going. Emilia Clark was as dreadful as always. I thought the lead guy was really good, but I didn't buy him as Han at all. Lando was great too, sadly underused. The train bit was cool, made me want uncharted 2 DLC where I could be Han.

Shame they had to be so heavy handed with the references though and the timeline doesn't make sense. So woody is telling Han that Jabba has a big job on, which suggests this is just before a new hope, yet Darth Maul shows up (and lights up his lightsaber for absolutely no reason), so this is before the phantom menace, meaning there's about 20 years minimum until ANH, so Han should be a lot younger in this.

Oh and does that mean Kalesee is a Sith apprentice of maul then? She seemed pretty handy with a sword.

Oh and crimson dawn?

The worst of the new films, but I still enjoyed it. At least it didn't have any mum jokes in this one.

Regarding your spoilers:

They ressurected Maul in Clone Wars I think, so it's not set prior to TPM. Haven't seen the movie yet but knew of this cameo. It's a weird way to reintroduce him as it's going to confuse those who have only followed the movies so far? Seems like a poor attempt at fanservice when they haven't dealt with how he survived being chopped in half in any of the prior films. Snacks of "hey I know, let's stick Maul in here rather than it serving any real purpose. But I'll see how it is for myself when it comes out over here.

:| Well that's really confusing because I've only seen the films so there's no way I'd know that, especially as
SPOOOILERS
they used the duel of fates music. Stupid to expect people to have watched a tv show to know what's going on in a film when a character we've seen once before appears in a prequel, when no other time frame of reference is given apart from mentioning the Hutts

He was a Robot from the waist down, clearly a reference to his demise in PM. No I have not seen him resurrected in any other medium, nor did I know about the cameo, and it didn't confuse me or anyone I went with. Well it did confuse me as why they would put such a blatant sequel bait in a one off film

"or does she only have enough fuel for one space resurrection?"
