Hmm, really not feeling it from that trailer, just seems to be lacking a lot.

Still, at least someone has finally realised it's a good idea to give Han some different clothes - I was getting worried they'd expect us to believe the guy only wore one outfit his entire strawberry floating life!

Not feeling it at all. After the abysmal humour in TLJ you just know this is going to be full of one liners. This is definitely the point that another Star Wars doesn't feel particularly special.

How young are Solo and Lando supposed to be? They weren't exactly old in the original trilogy.

The biggest problem I have is that the character of Han Solo is intrinsically linked to Harrison Ford. Solo is Ford and Ford is Solo, you can't separate the two. Having some other guy running around pretending to be Han just doesn't work in my brain on a very fundamental level - he doesn't look like Ford, he doesn't sound like Ford, he doesn't have the same mannerisms and facial expressions as Ford, he isn't as cool as Ford.

fast edit: At least with the young Indiana Jones, River Phoenix was playing Ford as a really young man, a teenager, so you wouldn't expect him to look completely the same as fully grown Indy. But in this Solo film, the guy playing Han is clearly a grown man, he's not teenage-Han.

No thanks.

Not sure about Lando but at no point did I think "thats Solo" in the trailer.

Totally agree. I thought he looked like a young Benico Del Toro which is especially strange after TLJ.

I do not like the guy they cast as Han.

I mean that's a huge role to fill. And they went with that guy...

I'll watch it purely for all the blue milk references.

The other problem is franchise fatigue has well and truly set in. Counting TFA, since December 2015 we'll have had four of these films in 2 and a half years. If you're generous and take it from when the first Force Awakens trailer landed (I think it was November 2014) then it will have been about three and a half years.

Before, just being "new Star Wars" would have cut it. But they don't have that going for them. The nostalgia buzz has been scratched by seeing all the old characters return already (including, you know, Ford as Solo). It's also coming out about five months after the last one.

Then there's also the problem of it being a side story that doesn't really fill in any gaps in the plot. Like I said before, all of Solo's key characteristics we can infer from his development in the main movies. We don't really need to see how. Origin stories are often lazy and uninspiring join-the-dots story telling. The prequels at their worst did this, but at least they did tread their own paths at times (I don't think anyone would write a sci-fi movie about trade regulations nowadays).

Then there's the problematic casting. New actors in existing roles are fine (I don't think anyone minds McGregor as Obi Wan for example), but they are possibly setting this a little too close to ANH and inviting unfavourable comparisons with Harrison Ford. It isn't really "Solo as a young man" as we've already seen him as a young man. Again, it ties in with whether we actually need a Origin story.

All that bloody space that they could fill - literal and figurative - and we're going back to existing characters in the short time frame of the existing movies. Thank God Johnson's trilogy will be completely removed, as movies like Solo are just even more blatant cash-grabs and quick and easy schedule fillers to keep the gravy train rolling, even more so than the Episodes.

And unlike Rogue one, this isn't just building upon a few lines of dialogue and an unknown cast of characters. This is one of the most iconic in the franchise. It's much riskier ground.

It might still end up being enjoyable, mindless filler. It probably will be mostly alright. But it just does absolutely nothing noteworthy at the moment.

He'll find the jacket in this. Probably turn to the camera and wink as well.

The audience will love it.

Ugh, the worst thing is you're probably right - I can absolutely see this happening. :fp:

Ten to one that someone tells him not to "get cocky" at some point as well. I really hope this isn't just full of really crap "winks" to Solo bits from the original trilogy. Hers where he got the jacket, here's why the Falcon is a pile gooseberry fool, here's a run in with Jabba, here's why he loves blasters so much...

Just doesn't seem to have that wonder, that spectacle, that other trailers have given us. It just looks... generic.
And that's not something I thought I'd be saying about a Star Wars trailer, considering how positive I usually am of the franchise.

I just can't seem to get excited for this movie and thought that trailer looked decidedly average. I think the combination of too many Star Wars movies being released in a short period of time plus TLJ being a bit shite in places has really put a downer on this franchise for me.

Yep, but he'll almost lose the hat behind a rapidly closing door.

And then he'll have to go on the run when he's accused of murdering his wife...

not going to watch and teasers/trailers but the gooseberry fool show that was the last Jedi really killed my hype for new star wars

It's like Disney have gone:

"Hey, audiences like Starlord.. let's just make a guardians movie but change the characters to star wars"
