Guys, I've got a new theory on who Snoke is. Bear with me here:

Really enjoyed it, absolutely LOVED how daring it was. So much to process though

Confident the people that don't like it will absolutely hate it. Heard a few people saying "Well that wasn't as good as The Force Awakens" on the way out, I'm guessing because it wasn't an overly familiar pseudo remake

Loved that, it was superb!

Couple of things:

Eddie Hitler was a nice surprise :)

Leia's Mary Poppins impression was strawberry floating far fetched and gooseberry fool. I wouldn't have been surprised if she said "I'm strawberry floating Mary Poppins y'all!"

Luke's Frodo baggins cosplay was great.

The scene in Snoke's throne room was amazing, had fantastic elements of an old Samurai movie.

Kylo's face in the fight with Luke was literally this guy

Overall it felt like a very different star wars movie, but much stronger than TFA.
Looking forward to watching it again!

Also Holly Willoughby can suck it.
I was hoping she was joking, but turns out she was telling the truth..

Though.... Yoda

Are you kidding me?

HEY LOOK GUYS, THE FIRST ORDER IS CHASING THEM DOWN! THEY'RE STRIKING BACK!

OMG IT'S HOTH!! THERE'S THE TRENCHES AND EVERYTHING!

Skippy, I didn't loathe it but nor was it anything other than a generic sci-fi with nothing particularly memorable to separate it from the pack. They could easily have knocked off about 45 minutes (the strawberry float was the point of that rich person planet bit? Sure, the kid with the broom at the end... But... strawberry float me how long did they waste for that tiny payoff?) hell, they could have knocked off 10 just by cutting out one of the many, many, manymanymany scenes of "Holy gooseberry fool! Guys! Character X is in peril! Guys! Look! Guys, they're totally going to die! No foolies OH MY GOD LOOK CHARACTER Y JUST CAME IN FROM OUT OF NOWHERE AND TOTALLY SAVED THEM WTF!!!"

I could also have done without the Marvel-esque trait that TFA had dabbles of; trying to shoehorn in a wisecrack every other sentence. Guys, you're not looking to score huge laughs every thirty seconds.

The good bits: Ren. Rey I can take or leave, but Adam Driver acted his nuts off. Luke, once he stopped fannying about. The end scene was by far the best. Finn's bits were good but mostly because of Finn, not the situations he was in (see above re shaggy dog story).

I didn't want to go full ranty because as I said, it wasn't BAD - it just could have been a hell of a lot better. Disappointed really.

It’s not terrible. But it’s not great.

I had a few laughs. Some unexpected twists.

But... it still feels off.

There’s something wrong with the movie. The pacing is all gooseberry fool. There’s some great bits in it that wasn’t followed through.

Could have been 15-20 mins shorter and the Mary poppins scene. Other than that. It was spot on. A film in its own right as well as part of the canon.

It will Polarise opinion but it’s Star Wars so that’s par for the course. I loved it.

Yeah that was bollocks.
I thought they'd been brave and killed her off.

Having thought about it this morning, I think it's all the flashback scenes that made the film feel out of pace. I don't think we've ever had flashbacks of that sort in star wars.

I do think the General Hux "bad phone signal" type joke was stupid and felt out of place for the series.

Definitely a better film than TFA. But best film since Empire?
Naaaaah.

This film has a total disregard for the past, and I LOVE IT. It's about moving on from the trappings of the original trilogy. Like Kylo says: "Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to."

Massive, massive spoilers in the list below.

- Luke dies
- His lightsaber is broken
- The first Jedi Temple is burned down
- Snoke, a blatant substitute for the Emperor, is killed off
- Leia's leadership is passed first to Holdo, then Poe
- You thought Rey's parentage would have ties to pre-existing characters? Think again
- You thought Snoke would be a pre-existing character? You thought he might be Darth Plageuis or a clone? Think again

When the Rebellion pins all its hopes on Luke Skywalker saving them all, he does, but he isn't really there. It's the idea of Luke Skywalker that draws out and distracts Ren. It's not the man, it's his legend, and then he dies.

The Force Awakens was a pseudo-remake of the original trilogy. The Last Jedi proudly, ruthlessly moves on from that so the new generation of characters can really come to the fore and lead the story. While it wasn't their intent, we're now left without Han, without Leia and without Luke. That said, I'm expecting Luke to return as a force ghost.

There are things I don't like about the film. But that's the stuff I loved

The Leia in space thing was so bad... Did they film 8 and 9 back to back? Because if not we'll have some potentially awful "Leia died on her way to her home planet" stuff to deal with...

Much like TFA, the middle sequence (the casino planet sequence here, the scene on Han's freighter in TFA) was really weird and out of place...

I hope Episode 9 has someone being killed by a Porg...

Having seen the outcome I'm surprised people are jumping to the conclusion that Luke has died.

I'm pretty sure they are going to reveal something about a higher plane of existence within the force or something. By the end of that movie, he is on a different level to any previous Jedi.

Or the same level as Yoda and Kenobi before him. Pretty sure he'll be back as a ghost
