So you want them to keep telling the same stories with only slight variations?

Booked in for 8pm tonight for a second viewing. I'm hoping that I've overthought it and that I'll realise I do love it after all.

Saw this in a late show last night. It was empty. As in just me and the missus. That was glorious.

The movie was a mixed bag. Better then FA in many ways but the New era movies are still leaving me a little cold.

Saw this this morning. Wonderful stuff. Don't think there was a thing I didn't like, except maybe the horse-hound racing creatures - what, pod racing isn't a thing any more?

Apparently IX will have a great big throwback to the prequels in it. I'm thinking that Kylo Ren will probably take up, and make good on, Snoke's threat to use a clone army if Gen. Hux fails (and let's face it, he has failed). I'd hope that the Resistance might do that first, but it's a more First Order-y thing to do.

Pod racing is clearly for the red neck star wars characters, CGI horses are for classy aliens.

Jabba the Hutt wasn't no redneck. Bubba the Hutt, on the other hand...

Anyway, if the throwback is clones, maybe that means Boba Fett's gonna make a comeback too. :toot:

Jabba may not be a red neck, but all his muscle is; so he's learnt to keep them happy.

Just got back from seeing it with my nephew. That was really patchy. Great start, then everything on the island, casino etc was utterly boring. The casino in particular was a really poor segment. It came together again for the throne room before some more boring gooseberry fool until salty Hoth.

I'm not sure why this film has escaped the criticism of TFA, it was like a remix of ESB and ROTJ.

There was some absolutely shite acting, Rey had some really stale lines with Luke and that weird looking woman who worked with the purple haired admiral was utterly terrible. Rose was just completely meh.

On the bright side they really brought Kylo Ren back after losing all his heat at the end of TFA. His acting was great as was Mark Hamill and Poe. Finn was great but wasted. Not sure where they will go with episode 9, it feels like they have moved into an odd direction and it didn't really feel like anything was set up. There was certainly no compelling hook. Didn't mind what happened to Snoke, he was a really poor man's Palpatine.

I liked it overall. I can see why some bits grated, but I do think it's unfair to deride TFA for being a rehash then slate TLJ for being too different.

The segment on the casino planet was like every bad part of the prequels condensed into one act. Bumbling tomfoolery, dopey looking kids, improbable set pieces, awkward social commentary. It was crap. The only saving grace is how salty the alt-right will be over the Marxist indoctrination of kids by the liberal media...

I can cope with Leia Force pulling herself to the ship. Unexpected, but fight or flight and all that. I thought that her still being alive would be a big reveal in IX which would ultimately turn Ren, but that's obviously not going to happen. I think in hindsight they now wish they'd let her die in that way to be honest, but they weren't to know.

I really liked Luke teaching Rey. Lots of interesting stuff came out about the nature of the Force and the Jedi.

The space battles were awesome. NEW MEGA B-WINGS! Had a proper nerdgasm at that part. The suicide run was great as well. The premise of the chase was a blatantly flawed version of the asteroid siege in Empire, and that's one of the biggest plot holes.

I think IX will be set quite a few years in the future, allowing Leia to die off screen, Rey to train, Finn to find a niche in the resistance, and all those radicalised kids to mature. The First Order will struggle to deal with the uprisings from an inspired populace, and in a panic will start purging the Outer Rim. Final battle, yadda yadda yadda...

It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable.

Aye. I figure Luke probably tried to unlock some of Leia's Force-using potential while he was setting up his Jedi School, so it really didn't bother me at all. It was actually quite nice to see.

The one element of the film that I came away properly dissatisfied with was Snoke, and the lack of any information at all on his background. I mean, he had no Darth title, so he wasn't Sith, so what and who was he? I can almost smell the Snoke: A Star Wars Story announcement five years in the future.

Looking forward to meeting the rest Knights of Ren in the next episode, as well as finding out what the prequel trilogy throwback will be. I assume clones, but we'll see. Gonna be interesting to find out!

Oh yeah, and she quite obviously knows how to use the Force because she was sensing all sorts in the last film.

Agreed that Snoke still being a mystery is disappointing. Having said that it was a brave decision to get rid. Not many films would do that to be fair. During that fight I genuinely didn't know which side each person would end up on, which is a first for Star Wars.

The moment when the Resistance cruiser lightspeed-rammed Snoke's capital ship, shattering it, was so strawberry floating cool. I can't think of a single other "holy strawberry float wow" moment from the series that took my breath away like that did.

Saw it this morning. Bit busy so can’t give my full reaction but it was amazing. Without a doubt the most joyable Star Wars film yet.

Edit. Can’t believe they killed off Admiral Ackbar :x

I'm sure one person did.

I much prefer use of words like spunk in an old fashioned sense to mum jokes...

Hehehe spunk. If only they had let Ade Edmundson deliver that line.

Saw this again today. While not the same hype fueled joy as the first viewing I did still enjoy it. Casino bit is a lot briefer than I remember it, kid wasn't as bad either.

For me it reminds me of The matrix reloaded which from the chateau battle to the end was amazing. With the last Jedi from the throne room onwards it's brilliant, but before that it's a few good scenes and some off choices.

Kylo Ren is epic, I noticed his line this time in which he said to Rey if you were projecting yourself half way across the Galaxy you'd exhaust yourself and die, which was a nice nod to the end.

I didn't mind the Carrie in space scene, but it was an odd choice.

Still loved the porgs and BB8.

The light speed crash was amazing, though ruined by one bloke in the cinems saying "ouchhhhh" in the silence that followed.

Wish my image sig would work

Luke's lost students would make a good secondary enemy for the next film.

Saw it today. Very disappointed. This film has a whole host of problems. There are a couple of great moments but so many bad ones.

One thing, is there a reason, Purple Hair Lady didn't just share her plan with everyone? By trying to fix it themselves, Finn and Poe etc basically ruined her perfectly good escape plan.
