What bugged me about that was why they never thought to do it earlier. They waited until the whole rebel fleet ran out fuel and got destroyed. Why not turn the first one around and ram the gooseberry fool out of them. It would have allowed the others time to jump to hyperspace. They already knew only big ship could track them so would have been quite safe

Weren't they under the impression the escape ships couldn't be targeted?

Which they wouldn't have been had they rammed it sooner. It was only Benicio del toro selling them out that made that happen. Rather than lose all 4 frigates they could have sacrificed one to let the others get away.

To be fair the whole tracking through hyperspace explanation was a bit Star Trek Voyager "tech the tech". Could have been done better.

As for reactions to things in cinemas, ours just had a collective gasp then this long exhale for the suicide run, it was awesome! It reminded me of when "A long time ago..." came up at the start of TFA. I have never heard a cinema audience that quiet before or since, and then there was this explosion of cheering as the logo burst onto screen. It was brilliant

That's probably the only thing that can beat sitting in front of a little kid in Batman Vs Superman and hearing his cries as his favourite superhero got crucified - totally the best thing about that film

I enjoyed last Jedi but I think rogue one and maybe even TFA were better.

As others have said, it felt like it didn't build on what came before and hasn't really led to anything that comes next. Entertaining and enjoyable but didn't have the feel of a crucial mid trilogy film where the stakes were raised. Not like Empire which was superb at elevating new hope and teasing for ROTJ

Rebels flying a plane on a suicide mission into a large structure that will kill thousands of people. Hmmmm.

They blew up the Death Star. Luke killed millions of people in that one proton torpedo shot. Most of the empire are just average working joes, they can't be held accountable like Tarkin Vader or Palpatine.

Some fat banana split neck beard behind us took a flash photo of the last Jedi text during the opening crawl, taking the moment away just as a family arrived late and took the remainder of the crawl to sit in front of us half standing taking their coats off. If I was well off enough I'd definitely either pay for a.private showing or buy every seat just so I could be in there without other people.

I mean, wouldn't be the first time you've bought seats for Star Wars and not used them...

I would say that is by far my favourite star wars outside of Empire.

Amazing film.

EDIT: To counteract the fact that people are saying snoke was wasted I think his death was perfect.

It ties in with what Yoda said to Luke. You're teaching Rei all she needs to know, including failure.

Snoke thought he was invincible, he was supreme leader and no one could stand up to him. He died while gloating, his arrogance was his undoing.

Just back from this. First of all, was worried from the start because some banana split sat next to me with a massive portion of nachos so I was prepared for them crunching them as loud as possible but I've never heard anyone eat so quietly in my life my goodness.

Went into it only having seen the first trailer and had Yoda spoiled by Holly whatshername. Really enjoyed it for the most part, better than Force Awakens but I think Rogue One might be better (need to watch that again, had it on Blu-ray since it came out but still haven't watched it :fp: ). Thought the pacing was perfect, the film seemed a lot longer than it actually was.. Some quick thoughts:

I still don't like Kylo Ren. Just comes off as a whiney teenager in literally every scene apart from the lightsaber fight with him teaming up with Rey.

The casino shite :fp: Felt like it was straight from the CGI-fest prequels. Those Trico things :dread: When they said they were off to that dodgy planet I was expecting a seedy Coruscant criminal underworld or something like that.

Old Luke is just badass. Loved him.

The red & white planet at the end looked visually stunning.

Was expecting the porgs to be really annoying and forced but I absolutely loved them

The rebel's plan to just stay out of range of the First Order's ships. What was that? It was like Space Balls or something.

The rebel ship doing a light speed jump right through Snoke's ship was spectacular. Loved it an it's something I've thought about since I saw the first film. "What would happen if you just smashed through a ship at light speed?" :datass:

I have to say what I found odd was that they have now mentioned the knights of Ren in the sense that they acknowledged that Kylo left the temple with 12 other students and killed the rest. So I wonder will we see them in the next episode or were they just acknowledging them to keep some people happy. If they do appear in the next episode then where the hell have the been and why has no one mentioned that a load of other jedi/siths exist. And if they are dead now, perhaps kylo or smoke killed them all at some point, if that the case shouldn’t they have mentioned that to further how much of a bad ass kylo or snoke was.

It's not even for sure that anyone in this time period actually is a Sith, given the absence of Darth titles, and the way Luke spoke of them as a thing of a prior age, not of the "now." :shifty:

I feel the two new star wars have been dumbed down considerably and they wanted to get rid of the past characters, likely due to cost reasons ratger than anything else.

Snoke being killed and the lack of a back story makes his importance even less so in a force awakens.

Kylo is still not the main enemy, not from his actibg anyway! He is anything but intimidating.

It seems as though disney want the star wars saga to last many years, so had to break free from the old storyline, but the new characters just aren’t strong enough apart from poe and finn, who i think acted great.

Lets see how the final film turns out. I don’t think it will be a straight rei vs ren battle.

I don't think they could have done that because the First Order would have just blown the ship up the moment it started turning around. It only worked at the end because they were focused on all the escape ships.

On my first viewing I was second guessing everything and when they said they needed a code breaker I was sure it would be a returning characte, maybe Lando or someone random from the original trilogy.

Wish my image sig would work

Just caught this at the airport before I fly home.

It was... fine.

Someone obviously lent them the SatNav from Game of Thrones coz characters were able to jump around a little too conveniently, and there was a couple of head-in-hands daft moments. Leia in space was one, and so was the random woman who saved Flynn from her suicide mission by....carrying out her own suicide mission. I get that she just about survived, but it made no sense.

I think my biggest gripe though was that, given that it's presumably the big bridge movie between TFA and whatever the third film is... nothing actually changed. Every character is pretty much exactly where they were at the start of the film. None of them had their circumstances change or progress or develop. There's just fewer rebel ships now. If someone were to skip this and go straight into the next film, the only important plot point is that Snope bit it.

It was fun though, and there was some amazing cinematography (during the final fight on Salty-Hoth in particular; the shot out of the whole in the door with Luke's silhouette against the advancing war walkers was beautiful), and I like how coherent they managed to keep the action sequences too.

I thought the casino scene did lift out too easily (it was one action sequence too many, especially as it was the first of what essentially a trio of them back to back), but I did really like the 'reveal' that there's a whole class of super rich who got that way from selling weapons to both sides of the war. Star Wars has always been very hokey-cokey lights vs dark fantasy morality, so to have this cynical 'Still a war and people are getting very rich playing both sides' slant to it was awesome.

I really hope Rey's parents do turn out to be strawberry floatin' nobodies coz I think that's actually a really interesting take on it. Sadly, I do think she's gonna turn out to be Han and Leia's other child or some gooseberry fool in the third film.
