Interesting quiz I found when researching a point I wanted to make - we all think we know Luke so well, but we've actually only got a small evidence base from the films to base our assertions on. The source url is broken so I can't verify the data, but it seems plausible. Another site had him at nearly four hours of screen time in the original trilogy - I thought that was way off...

14/20 by the way (and the thread's derailed...)

The Emperor only has about 45mins of screen time. He might not be evil he might be giving money to charity and running a soup kitchen to feed the hungry. He probably enjoys walks in the park, smelling flowers and walking his dogs Mace and Annie.

Palpatine spends the entirety of the films being either duplicitously benevolent or outright evil. All you're being asked to believe is that Luke could see evil rising in Kylo and was tempted for a split second to stop it there and then. Like he was tempted in ROTJ to try to strike down the Emperor, and then when he comes within a whisker of killing Vader. It's not out of character - it happens twice in the original trilogy!

Inexplicably I forgot Chewie, then I forgot all the new characters. This is either because I haven't spent twenty years loving the new films and the characters, collecting action figures, playing games, all that jazz, or it's because they're PAPER THIN CHARISMA VACUUMS strawberry float YOU DISNEY RAPING MY CHILDHOOD.

Not sure...

I don't really get the flying Leia thing, she's a powerful force user and was muted as the back up Skywalker in JOTJ so I can buy the surviving in space stuff. She probably saw the attack coming and had a bit of time to prepare herself. That said I did find the cutting a bit awkward, it was like they killed her and then chickened out at the last moment.

Yes but when you have no rules or consistency the magic loses any impact it might have because it just becomes a deus ex machina.

DBZ is basically space magic, but because it has structure and rules, when a character powers up or does a new technique it's impactful and cool. Because it sets up boundaries and then breaks them. TLJ didn't attempt to do that.

Forgot BB8 and Dooku.

Not sure how I missed that first one when I remembered the other equivalents.

So, who was the joker here who tried to convince us that Boba Fett would show up in TLJ, due to some set being named after him? :x

He'll show up as a main character in episode 9.

Got 20/20 in that quiz. Inexplicably, it took me longest to get Yoda. Would like to see an updated version with TLJ included. I reckon Hux might just scrape onto the list.

Finally got around to seeing this yesterday.

I really enjoyed it overall, though I can absolutely see why it got some mixed reviews. The part on the planet of the rich people goes on for a bit longer than is necessary, and the new Admiral person is just a badly written character that makes no sense whatsoever. There was absolutely no reason for her not to share her plan with Poe and the other senior staff. Instead she just gleefully acts like an arsehole for no reason and ends up causing a mutiny in the process.
The film also has the exact same problem with Rey that the last one had. She just starts pulling new Force powers out of her arse despite still having strawberry float all training.

I liked that Rey's parents were absolute nobodies though, just random scum who sold her off for booze money.

Saw this last night - 6/10

Things I liked:

- Yoda - was lovely seeing him back in puppet form, far more tangible and cheeky
- Luke - Mark Hammil's a great actor, why isn't he in more stuff?
- Kylo Ren - a character of genuine conflict, plus dem big pants :datass:
- The new AT-ATs - they looked beefy as strawberry float :datass:
- Snoke - he was a genuinely menacing villain and his gold dressing gown was lovely
- Ade Edmondson - I did about 5 double-takes, couldn't believe he was in this
- Most of the time it looked and sounded great, but you'd expect that from these new SW films.

Things I disliked:

- The use of Snoke - what a waste of a potentially great character. We didn't learn anything about him and his death was cheap.
- Snoke's Power Ranger guards (who were all too far away to actually be of use to him) - strike a pose!
- The lack of either Rey or Kylo turning - they chickened out, Rey should have turned, that would have been a brave move.
- Daisy Ridley - the delivery of some of her lines were super wooden, especially in the first act.
- Leia - sorry, but she looked and sounded like Jackie Stallone, they should have just let her die when the bridge got hit. Now they'll have to kill her off in a less-satisfying way in the next film. Dumb. The flying spacewitch bit was hilarious and not in a good way.
- General Hux - overacted and too snivelly, bit of a buffoon. How is he a general in a ruthless empire?
- The general silliness of it all - too many quips and slapstick bits. It was like the Avengers.
- The atrocious filler gooseberry fool with Finn (wasted character) and Rose (why does she exist?). Purely there to give Finn something to do, which contributed zilch to the story. I wish he'd died sacrificing himself.
- The Last Guardian racehorse/dog sub-plot.
- The "Chromedome" quip that Finn says :fp: :fp:
- The Codebreaker's stupid speech impediment - why is this a thing? Del Torro's a great actor, why waste him?
- The weird Rey mirror sequence, ultimately pointless and unnecessary, didn't tell us anything. That whole "dark well" thing on the island was a wasted opportunity, could have done a lot with it.
- It was too long, 30 mins could have been cut (hello Casino subplot) and it would have been a better film for it.
- The demise of Brienne of Stormtrooper - wasted in both films - what was the point of her again?
- Some dodgy greenscreen when Finn and Rose were in the hangar that was on fire, looked cheap as gooseberry fool.
- Poe Dameron - a genuinely reckless and dangerous guy, a proper liability. Quite unlikable.
- There's probably more that I'll think of later...

6/10? Might actually even be a 5.

Also, I noticed about 5 people walked out of the screening after maybe an hour, which surprised me as IMAX tickets aren't cheap.

I liked these three things :(

Chromedome is dumb but Star Wars has always been full of dumb name calling
