This.

What I wouldn't have given for a JJ hat trick of wonder and joy .

I get why you'd want this but wouldn't giving the whole trilogy to JJ lead to three movies of riddles followed by no pay off.

That said I agree that Disney should have plotted out some kind of story before undertaking making the movie.

Well better no pay off than literally no pay off from the last film with such crap answers such as reys parents and snokes end. I do believe kylo lied to her however.

And another thing, Rey is too much of a (and I hate this term) Mary Sue.

Ace pilot despite no spaceship training
Superb fighter despite no combat training
Strong with the force despite no force training

We also never see her go for a poo or reapply her makeup, but low and behold she never looks bloated or in need of a touch up.

As much as I didn't enjoy TLJ, at no point was I sitting there wishing Rey would go for a gooseberry fool.

This was much more an issue in TFA. In TLJ I think they deconstructed it, or at least toned it down, with having her jump into situations expecting them to go her way but having them constantly going wrong (Luke not returning, Ren not turning etc). She's obviously skilled in the Force here but that too is explained somewhat.

I will say I think she was miscast though. Daisy Ridley is a good actor and all but she is far, far too attractive for the abandoned daughter of two junkie space duds.

She clearly went off screen and just left it on the floor. Explains why those cleaning aliens were so pissed off all the time.

What I dislike about the Star Wars films is that every single one leaves opens hundreds if not thousands of questions, leading to arguments. They the seem to write a novelisation based on all the plot holes that people have discussed with an attempt to stop the questioning but I just see that as a rush job. In my opinion they hadn’t considered the answers to most of the questions before the films release and only attempt to fix them afterwards. Thus i don’t often care for the explanations as they are just an afterthought. Sometimes not very well thought through.

All of that goes for Luke Skywalker as well.

All of that goes for Luke Skywalker as well.

1. Luke doesn't wear makeup.
2. Luke definitely curled out a poo in ESB when he was hanging from the cloud city's Sky dish.
3. He got his wings on the job in ANH.
4. He learned his saber skills on the job fighting Vader (losing once in ESB, then going all rage on him in Jedi). He also got some training from Obi-Wan in ANH.
5. He definitely learned the ways of the force from Master Yoda.

1. All actors wear makeup
2. Everyone poos
3. So did Rey while escaping that planet
4. Rey got her skills on the job, she was already skilful with the staff thing.
5. Luke was already using the force before meeting Yoda.

Luke had flown ships before (him growing up flying the T-16 Skyhopper through Beggar's Canyon would have helped him with the trench run (I'm sure there's a bit with Biggs and/or Wedge where they say it's "just like shooting Womp Rats back home")).

(EDIT: I'm getting two quotes joined up, here - He says to Biggs that it'll be "Just like Beggar's Canyon back home", and then when they're saying that it'd be impossible to hit the exhaust port because it's so small Luke's like "nah m8 2 metres isn't much smaller than a womp rat imma do that just watch me")

Had Rey ever flown anything before? If hotshot ace pilot Poe Dameron gets shot down within minutes of getting in the cockpit it does seem a bit strange that Rey can just jump in, outfly the First Order and then escape the planet.

And don't forget her god-like skills at the wheel (does it have a wheel?) of the Millennium Falcon in TFA.

Maybe she just intuitively knows how gooseberry fool works, like Anakin did when he restored/built C-3P0, won a pod race and destroyed a Trade Federation battleship?

Luke might've had some training in Beggar's Canyon and shooting Womp Rats, but he had still never been in the cockpit of an X-Wing starfighter before. But he was still able to use it to great effect at Yavin.

Also, remember that Rey spent a lot of time on Jakku tinkering with and disassembling spaceships, and she rode her own speeder everywhere. She has to have picked up some knowledge there.

So what we're saying is that Rey is basically as bad as baby Anakin Skywalker.

I'm saying that all three trilogies see people with no prior experience of dog-fighting pull off amazing achievements in that field.

It's all linked.
