Starlink: Battle for Atlas *OFFICIALLY* better than Star Fox Zero

Starlink: Battle for Atlas follows fan-favourite Fox McCloud and crew on their mission to hunt down wanted fugitive Wolf O'Donnell. Tracking him to the Atlas system, the Star Fox team come to the aid of a scientific mission from Earth and quickly find themselves involved in a mission much bigger than they expected, with not just Wolf but the entire fate of Atlas resting in their hands.

Utilising Earth's Starlink technology, Fox's Arwing can be customised with numerous new weapons, each with their own elemental attributes that can be combined for various effects. In fact with Fox's newfound allies it is even possible to change both ship and pilot, making this the most varied Star Fox adventure yet!

Starlink is devloped by Ubisoft under licence from Nintendo.

...

Okay so it's not actually a Star Fox game, but the Switch version of Starlink may as well be. Coming with Fox and the Arwing in the starter kit, Fox and friends are fully integrated into the story, appearing in cutscenes and with Fox having his own unique voiced dialogue throughout the game (which is how most of the story is developed).

From my first impressions it's a fun game, if a little overwhelming at first. Combat is fast, exploration and visuals have clear parallels with No Man's Sky (but with considerably more character), and the overall game is a full modern Ubisoft RPG-style open world.

The toys to life aspect is so dumb yet endearing, but luckily you can switch into "digital" mode and forgo the whole physically switching your ship up in favour of the much speedier and less cumbersome in-game customisation. Weirdly the Switch starter pack comes with the regular starter ship and one of the three starting weapons as digital only, so if you want to use these you have to play digitally anyway!

Has anyone else picked this up or is anyone else interested in the game?

I'm interested... but not planning to get it, Orange. It does look fun - particularly the Star Fox aspects - but I've watched a few vids and the amount of voiceovers going on seemed a little distracting. But, hey, I'm actively looking to be way more "choosy" about getting games so it's probably my brain inventing excuses not to get it.

I'm keen to hear how you and others get on with it, though :-) .

Being better than Star Fox Zero isn't really much of an endorsement.
It's like a Sonic game claiming to be better than Sonic 06.

Excuse me for filling my OP with Original Content™ rather than embedding some press release screenshots and a trailer from youtube :x

I've been curious about it, but... TOO. MANY. GAMES.
I'll think about it, but knowing me I'll look at the store page later and instantly buy it.

How does the controller feel with all those bits clipped onto it?

I think this looks amazing, but they have missed a trick by making the digital edition just as expensive as the physical edition. They should have done a version that’s digital and a bit cheaper to account for the fact you’re not paying for the toys to life stuff.

I’d like to get it, but no space for more tat at the moment and not paying £65 for the game.

I think the price might be the big barrier that puts people off this as the game itself looks great.

On Switch at least it is completely fine, the ship is sturdy but light. It definitely looks far more unwieldy than it actually is. The engine also light up blue when it is on and this is a little touch that adds a lot imo.

Switching weapons up is inescapably fiddly compared to playing digitally and just pausing into the menu, I don't think there is any getting around that. It's very cool to see the ship reconfigure itself live as you make changes though!

Amiibo? Nah, they use NFC (so they are wireless), starlink works with actually plugging connectors into the controller mount or ship. The character models are only about an inch squared so much smaller than amiibo (because of the scaling against the ships).

That sounds like being terrific fun, Orange :datass: . I'm not gonna read anything else about this 'cos I don't want to deal with temptation.

When is this out? I guess it's been posted, but, I'm too lazy to look.

More proprietary peripheral to clutter up your home, Nintendo just love this gooseberry fool don't they?

At least they've had the decency to make it optional this time.

Yeah but you still pay the same price even if you don't get the toys.

Read/watched some reviews for this and it does sound very good! If I bought it it'd have to be the digital version though as I don't want to take up room with the toys to life aspect, already got enough Amiibo taking up a shelf doing relatively little...... :)
