You have to switch to digital mode by disconnecting from the mount, which is what you did by switching to the pro controller. When using the mount, everything has to be physical

Judging by the sales I think they made abit of a mistake with the pricing on this. Maybe it’ll pick up nearer Xmas.

The marketing push seems massive, I reckon it will be a christmas game for kids

I was so weak :fp: . I watched Pedz stream a couple of gaming sessions and I really liked the look of it. I was going to go for the toys option but, as a set, they are super-expensive and I decided to go the download route... and that option is still expensive  .

I've played maybe two hours so far and... I think it's lovely! The inclusion of Fox and Co in the Switch version is really well done and I'm kinda thinking that this is a new StarFox adventure. The ships feel good when you steer them; the analog sticks are great for sweeping the vehicle around. I'm having a lot of fun with the gameplay as it mixes up flying, shooting, exploration and collecting into a slick - and big - adventure.

I feel that there is confusion about the game in terms of the toy and digital options. You can use either approach and have fun; the toys look great and - from watching vids - the tactile nature and ease of swapping bits on and off is good fun... but the digital approach is (relatively) cheaper and quicker. There's no doubt that this is an expensive game to get everything for; I'd suggest watching some vids before splashing out on either option.

Some folk have made comparisons with No Man's Sky. I can see why but only in broad terms; this game is simpler and easier to get into... and offers more immediate fun. Production values are high - it is perhaps surprisingly slick on Switch and Ubi has utilised their Snowdrop engine which I'd previously experienced with The Division.

I'm hoping that my initial enthusiasm continues and, at this stage, it feels like it will. The opening hours have been terrific.

The digital version is more than relatively cheaper. I'm sure buying all the stuff physically would be near £300 compared to £80 for everything digital.

There is certainly a big difference between the two options, Pedz; when I said "relatively" I meant in relation to the outlay... the £89.99 cost of the Digital Deluxe Edition is still a big price tag. In my opinion, anyway :) .

I'm hoping that the game is popular enough for Ubi to expand it in the future. It'd be ace to see additional planets, missions and ships. Launch sales seem to have - barring the Switch version - been low, though. I suspect that pricing is a big factor in this and it's a shame as the fun factor is very high.

It is a shame, thing is I don't think it'll appeal to everyone. Matt said he thinks it looks boring and pretty much spent most of his time of me playing complaining about how generic everything is, which Jazzem kept saying how it looks exactly like No Man's Sky maybe NMS has killed off this game for the time being.

Yeah, I get the feeling it isn't going to sell in big numbers, Pedz. From watching vids I think the gameplay loops could get a little repetitive... but that probably applies to most games, really. If the style appeals, I reckon most people will have fun with it.

The cartoon nature perhaps hides some excellent aspects, in particular the sheer slickness of the action. You can fly from a planet up into space and land elsewhere - stopping whenever to adjust your ship construction - all without loading screens. It's pretty impressive when you scratch beneath the surface.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it jawa! Having played a lot my advice for anyone is to push through the story as quick as you can, as it continues to unlock mechanics throughout that change the game to make it way more interesting and progressively almost more rts. At the point I'm at now I can build 4 types of outpost on planets to help swing the war in the good guys favour, which is tracked per planet and has the legion periodically spawning primes and extractors down to planets from space ships. I like it a lot

Do yourself a favour and battle against a fully-powered Prime. Those things are beast.

Fox for me is Lv26, and I've taken control of every planet. Do I go Star Fox missions or final main campaign battle first..?

I'm just on my way to the dark sector now after clearing Tundria, at level 19. I'm going to max out at level 20 unless I switch out the Arwing for the starter ship (nah) or buy some new weapons (but there is no easy way of getting gravity + stasis which is what I'd want for unlocking things).

EDIT: Also I should explain that I discovered a useful glitch related to that clip above. If the prime dies in the initial barrage (as it does there), the death cutscene cancels the wingmate spawning in, so Fox's special stays at max charge/doesn't get used.

I beat Wolf B) I should be playing on a higher difficulty really but eh I'm overlevelled anyway

Using all the star fox/arwing specific mods and laser canons is great fun, as it is full star fox. Not actually very useful because the laser canons can't be modded themselves and don't do elemental damage though.

Finished up the Star Fox story and the final main story.
Both of which were ridiculously easy thanks to being almost double the level than the enemies I faced. And I think legendary mods might have had something to do with that as well.
Great fun. I'm thinking of a replay using another character to see what funny or interesting chatter is had. Levi seems like he'd have some good stuff to his name.

I also finished it, 30+ hours. Postgame was frighteningly short as I had already cleared every planet so just had to destroy a couple of dreadnoughts. I haven't 100%ed the planets and got all the data log entries but I'm probably not going to.

The game is very fun and it remained a star fox game in my mind throughout. My biggest complaint would be the difficulty (I probably should have turned it up) and not having the weapon variety as I didn't buy them - which isn't even really needed. I did switch to playing portable but I'm still glad I have the physical Arwing, even if the digital edition seems way better for adding some variety.

The star of the game I think is actually the planet designs and lore. People might complain about the underdeveloped characters, but the planets are really well thought out and designed and I enjoyed finding out about them all.

I reckon there is definite replayability with other characters and ships, although I will probably move on to other things now. Still, I'm happy I played it and 30+ hours is a very good stretch!

From the Bargain thread:

What were the sales figures like for this? It seems to have been well reviewed and quite heavily promoted so I'm surprised it's been discounted quite so soon.

It's a good game that's fun to play; especially the Switch version as it has the exclusive StarFox aspects. OrangeRKN completed the main story and (as detailed above!) found it to be good entertainment, too. I don't believe that the game has sold that well, though, hence the fairly rapid price reduction.

I went down the digital download route and you get more add-ons (digital versions) than with the physical edition. Pedz has the physical edition on Switch and may be able to give a better view; but, by most accounts, the digital version is actually quicker / easier to swap parts in and out. Of course, the physical version is fun to play with, though!
