I've played about 3-4 hours and I think I'm done. The game doesn't have much depth to it.

Rock Paper Shotgun...didn't like it

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/0 ... -2-review/

Even as a story generator, it’s limited. Each character has a background, skills and special characteristics if you go looking for them in the community menu. And you can upgrade skills to become specialised in certain things. Maybe you become able to stuff more items in your pockets, or run without running out of breath for a longer period of time. But the effect this has on the day-to-day scavenging is negligible. If I was to scour my brain for anecdotes about my time with these people, 9 out of 10 stories would start: “This one time, we attacked some zombies.”

I’m driving down the road again, a follower riding shotgun. This time we’ve only got one thing on our To Do list – get out. You see, if you upgrade the command centre in your compound, it turns out you get an ability that highlights escape routes from the map. Drive over to these big gates and you can leave this whole province behind. I can’t wait. So I’m driving to one of these exit points now, with fellow survivor and famous oil spiller Victoria. We roll up to the gate, and hold the button to leave.

Then it appears. A new map, different from the last. Unexplored, unlooted, undone. Around me the whole group has followed us, and they have set up a tiny command post in the open. Perhaps here it will be different. Perhaps here we won’t face endless tasks and ch–

“We should get some water,” says one of the survivors.

I look up at the sky and fire my handgun nine times into the air. Let the zombies come.

Absolutely loving this game, put in 20 hours so far carefully building my base and developing my survivors skills.

Great fun in coop aswell dropping in and out of games with mates to help them on missions.

Have encountered a few glitches but nothing game breaking so far. Agree it could do with another layer of polish.

Perma death makes everything a little tenser (must admit to turning my console off once to save a survivor... cowardly I know). This is basically the zombie game I’ve wanted.

I think the reviews score are a bit harsh in my opinion but I am probably biased as this game ticks all the boxes of my preferred gameplay style (coop, open world, sandbox, zombies).

It ticks the boxes for me in what it would be like to be in The Walking Deads' situation. The combination of base building, community management and resource gathering is quite a heady mixture.

It's a game play loop that has yet to get stale. I finished the first one and wanted more so this and the DLC will keep me going for ages. After the first few hours you hit a rythm, both my cars have petrol cans and tools in them, the base is running pretty much like clock work bar a few arguments that will be settled once I take out a few more infested places and all the while this ticks on, I know in the back of my head that my resources on the map will dwindle in time, and the perma-death always looms. Starting a new map afresh after all of this will be great for me cos my survivors should be leveled to the max.

I don't see the point in the Juggernaut Z's, they're slow enough to completely avoid and you can spot them a mile away. I don't think I'll ever engage with one and if I do, it'll be purely down to my own stupidity/bad luck. I keep thinking that one will show up while doing a plague heart. :dread:

As far as the stories go, I've had a few varied ones. One was about noisy folk, other one was about a guy accused of murdering one of his fellow survivors, some gun runners, army personel and my mate was telling me about looking for an ex sniper that served in Afghanistan in his game. Hardly ground breaking stuff but tangible, I like to make up stories in my head looking at things. I also like that the loot generally is connected to it's place, food in resteraunts, medicine in vets and docs, ammo in camping goods (although found a few gun nut owners who's garages have USA flags and crap everywhere.

Looking forward to new maps coming down the line with hopefully fully fleshed out stories in tow.

EDIT: I gave my mate some petrol cos it was very low in his game, we're going looking tonight for some but if not he's going to start preparing to leave for another map.

The problem is, I did all this in the first. What is the here, apart from more (and co-op, which I have no interest in)?

Nothing much tbh, the blood plagues are like a harder infested house but on the whole they aren't a game changer. Despite it's looks,it does look far prettier than the first game but if you're bored of the gameplay loop then I wouldn't recommend it.

You could levy the same accusation against every COD/Battlefield/PES/FIFA.

What’s new is coop play, updated graphics and generally a better gaming experience. Reported bugs accepted but the user interface is far more clearer than the first which looked ugly and was confusing.

Which is 100% the reason I don't touch those franchises. The question then becomes, without the huge embedded fanbases who are willing to tolerate that iterative shite, why isn't this a true sequel? When one of your main talking points is an updated UI, something has clearly gone awry.

Was helping out someone find their friend tonight and drove up to find a horde and a juggernaut. After a ferocious battle managed to take him out with everyone alive. Got a ton of resources thankfully. Might move to a new outpost more central on the map as clearing out the places nearby my current one.

Well a glitch killed Cate, threw a Molotov and when fire went out ran into place, we burned invisibly.

She was grounded by something inside the building, ran in then burst into flames:

Image

She burned to death via the invisible fire then turned so I had to execute her.

Image

I think the glitch was that she was on fire but we couldn't see it, so when we touched her, we went on fire, normally it may have not have ended in her death but because she was inside and needed assistance It made things worse. Pretty annoyed about it tbh, everyone in my base has very low morale because of it. :(

State of Decay 2 Breaks Record with Over 1 Million Players in First Two Days of Global Release

As we close out our first week of the zombie apocalypse, we wanted to welcome and say thank you to the over one million fans playing State of Decay 2, helping break the million player mark, and answering the question: how will you survive?

Since Early Access for the Ultimate Edition on May 18 and the global release of the Standard Edition on May 22, we have had over a million survivors across the globe playing and creating their own zombie survival story. Throughout launch, there have been over six million combined hours of State of Decay 2 gameplay, and we’ve watched nearly 3.5M hours of gameplay across Mixer, Twitch and YouTube Gaming from over 41,000 unique broadcasts.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/05/25/ ... l-release/

1st game sold 250k after 2 days on XBLA, 1m copies on XBLA/Steam after 6 months. Ended up with over 4.5m sold.

The game is on Game Pass so the figures will be skewed.

Having said that. This game is definitely my sort of game. I've found myself having just as much fun with this one as I did the first.

Looking forward to trying out co-op, which is what I really wanted to play.

EDIT: Nope it's 1m players playing it. Carry on as you are. :shifty:

I'm waiting for some patches on Xbox versions MP because as it is now, it whacks up the bug count to nuclear. PC version agains seems to handle it all fine or at least better than Xbox.

Going by the DF vid, this was clearly started on PC, then ported to Xbox One X, then down to base X. Most games get developed the opposite to this.

Also, 'record' is only mentioned once in that article; in the title itself. They mean they sold more than the first one. It wasn't record breaking at all.

Hate that sort of crap.

Still can't find anyone with electronic skills, need to upgrade that com centre :x

Took down a Juggernaut with a shotgun, must have used about 30 rounds doing it though. Now I just run like strawberry float or floor it if I'm in a vehicle. Ferrals can be little gooseberry fools too if they get you indoors :dread:

Even game people don't like my company
