How is the streaming from your pc, is there any noticeable lag and are you using wired or wifi.

Those games are probably best suited to the Steam controller thanks to the trackpads and gyro controls.

I have it wired at the moment and see minimal lag. I went wireless with it once and it was really bad but I guess it depends on signal strength and router placement.

I really do not feel comfortable using the trackpad for these sort of games, doesn't feel responsive enough for it.

The idea of these steam machines really interests me as I've never had a gaming pc. Can get a pre built 'gaming pc' for half the price though, and steam link seems interesting for getting it on a tv if it works.

I don't see any point in buying a machine running Steam OS as most of those machines are available with Windows 10 as well. You can just install Steam on one of those and have the benefits of Steams store and big picture mode while retaining the software library of Windows.

Have you tried using the gyro as well? Set it to low sensitivity (lower than default, but not all the way down because that just turns it off), high smoothing and only active when the right touchpad is being touched. It takes some getting used to, but once you do it makes shooters a lot easier to control.

My steam link arrived today and i am pretty impressed. I tried it out on the wifi connection first and it ran very well with a very small amount of input lag, i also tweaked my tv a little as that compensates for blur and judder. I've now set it up using the wall plug network adapters and it's even better. Some games though are a little weird. The stanley parable was a little juddery and the controls out of sync a bit but as it's not a full on action game it was fine. Broforce played really well and had little to no input lag at all . I also tested out super meat boy and that one was a toughy. You can play it but it was quite a challenge on the harder levels as your response time needs to be spot on.

I also found you can easily go into the desktop just by going to the desktop option from the steam shutdown icon in the top right which is quite cool and this means i can use chrome or firefox to stream from and it displays on my TV screen perfectly. For the price and what it can do plus it's bound to be worked on and improved in future i have to say it's pretty damn good. I am though mainly going to use it to play rogue legacy, gang beasts and stuff like that but i think it could do a great job as well to play MMO's own if you have a good mouse and keyboard combo and want to play on a large tv without having to drag a pc around.

Im hoping it will be an adequate replacement for keyboard and mouse for most games. I plan on using it for a couple of weeks solid to get to grips with it, Ive heard it has a pretty steep learning curve.

Steam has now crashed twice on me while I was making a profile for Skyrim. Everything's great for 20-30 minutes, then all of a sudden the game stops responding. I go back to the desktop and see that Steam has crashed.

I love how configurable this controller is. Here's one guy who made a one-handed configuration for Skyrim for someone who can only use their right hand:

What I don't love is how shitty the most popular configs seem to be. For one, hardly anyone seems to bother with the touch menus. The touch menus are one of the greatest, most flexible things about the controller, especially with the recent addition of icons. Hopefully we get to have custom icons at some point, or maybe just games get to have their own set of icons. It's absolutely mad that people aren't taking advantage of the feature. One person bound quicksave and quickload to left and right on the left trackpad, and not even mode shifted.
It doesn't bother me personally because I'm always going to roll my own, but it sucks for the people who want to just quickly get into a game with no hassle.

So I got my Steam controller...

Oh god, the awful noises the trackpads make :dread: :dread: :dread: :dread: :dread:

For the love of god someone tell me you can turn the noises off?

It's the haptic feedback, make sure you change that from low as it just seems to make a sound and you get little sensation back.

A bit of a google shows it to be a fairly common complaint, apparently it's just the haptic feedback.

Not at my computer right now so can't check, but it's in the settings somewhere. To be honest it wouldn't bother me anyway as I generally use headphones, but I see how it can be annoying.

Remove the haptic feedback? That's crazy talk. Keep it on low if you must. It really helps a lot.
At the very least only turn it off for trackpads emulating a mouse, but leave it on for everything else because it really helps you know where your finger is on the pad without looking down from the screen.

I spent a couple of hours playing Disney Infinity on my Link and actually forgot that it was being streamed from my PC. The connection is great with homeplugs and I can see many hours of Comfy Couch goodness in the future.

Sadly, I somehow broke Dolphin as it usually launched within Big Picture Mode but now I have to restart the stream and select it from the taskbar so I can't use the Steam controller. I was planning to use 360 controllers, or GameCube ones if the adapter works with the Link, so it isn't a big issue bit it will be annoying to have to go to the desktop to every time I want to use Dolphin.

Definitely going to take a long time to get used to the right analogue stick being replaced by the touchpad for third person games. Was having major difficulty trying to play Arkham Knight with it. Think I need to whack the sensitivity up at the very least.

You're emulating an analog stick with the right touchpad? If the game supports gamepad and mouse simultaneously then I suggest using it as a mouse instead (assuming the game has the mouse control the camera).
That way you get analog movement and the right trackpad is in its best, most natural mode.

I'm just guessing here as I've never played a 3rd person action game with the controller, but that seems like the best way to do it.
