Its incredibly fuzzy as everything feels so low resolution. And to cap it off it melted my face as I got so hot under the headset. Plus it has left me with motion sickness.

At that price they are taking the absolute piss, I don't see how anyone could use that technology for anything more than short 10-15 minute blasts.

Did you play anything specifically made for VR? Or just Project Cars?

Admittedly just Project Cars but the pixels were just so visible even on the menus it wasn't in any way HD. I don't see how other games would change that?

Racing games and flight sims are the kinds of games I'd want to play in VR, and to be honest it did add something to Project Cars as it made it possible to follow closely from the in car view. It just felt about 4 years ahead of its time like it needs a 4 times more powerful system than the most powerful PC now, and about 3 times more resolution on the screens.

Regarding the motion sickness: That's entirely down to Project Cars. Had you played something more static that used the Vive controllers you wouldn't have had that problem. Most people can build up a tolerance to the motion sickness, but it takes a while.

As for the resolution all I can say is when I find a game that I enjoy a lot, if I get really into it I mostly forget about it. It's there if I look for it, but in the middle of an intense table tennis match or shooting flying robots in Space Pirate Trainer it just kind of melts away. It's mostly a problem for me in slower paced games that go for a realistic or detailed visual style. Simpler visual styles tend to faire better in VR at the moment because of the low resolution.

I mean, it is clearly very early days for VR at the moment and the low resolution, lack of AAA games and a number of other issues mean it's definitely not for everyone just yet. It's an enthusiast device for an enthusiast market. Hopefully that'll change in the next few years.

When you get the chance to try it again I would highly recommend playing something like The Lab (free game from Valve made as a showcase of what's possible in VR) or anything else that uses the Vive controllers. Given your experience so far it won't sell you on the Vive, but it might make you excited for the next generation (or the one after that, which is when I feel like the resolution issue will be solved adequately for most people (through eye-tracking and foveated rendering)).

That's disheartening to hear, and something I feared.

I played an Oculus dk1 and the res was dreadful, appreciate it will be improved for retail but the fact that the most expensive option suffers the same issue is very disappointing to hear.

I really want to get one of them for chrimbo, but worry it's just too soon, and there will be a lot of people with buyers remorse come December.

I was planning on picking up a Vive at christmas this year but now I'm starting to have second thoughts. The games just don't seem to be there. Pretty much the only PC VR games that seem to interest me at the moment are Elite Dangerous and Eve Valkyrie, very similar types of game, and the latter I'm not sure is even Vive compatible as I only see it on the Rift store.

I might just stick with PSVR and give PCVR another year or so to develop.

Did anyone besides me get a Vive? The game Accounting by Crows Crows Crows and Squanchtendo (Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty)) just came out.
It's kind of like Dr. Langeskov/The Stanley Parable meets Rick & Morty, and it's exactly as weird and wonderful as that sounds. It's also free.

If you have the means to play the game I don't suggest watching this trailer.

Google Earth VR was just released and it's way cooler than it has any right to be:

I checked out a few of the places I visited last year on my USA trip and it was really cool being able to see those places again. It's even possible to go down to human scale (needs to be enabled in the settings first), and I did so to stand on the roof of the building where my San Francisco based friend lived back then and enjoyed the same view. In human scale everything that's close by (like the rooftop I was on) is pretty blurry and lacking in detail, but it was still pretty surreal just how 'present' I felt. The view of the city was really cool, which helped.

Viewing the Earth at the closest possible distance in the globe view is pretty trippy. Looking off to the side and seeing the horizon vertical (vertizon?) was more than a little unsettling for me, for some reason.

I'd be interested in that but only for room scale. Seated isn't an issue with the wires but I'm always moving them out of the way when walking around.

That new headband could be good too.

Hopefully Vive 2 has inside-out tracking so they can do away with the external sensors.

Judging by Lenovo's headset, inside-out tracking uses cameras and works similar to Kinect built into the headset.

Why would you want to do away with the sensors though? They're not intrusive and the tracking is perfect.

Clearly inspired by Summer School for PSVR, VR Kanojo is a new game for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows VR. The difference is this game is a little bit more... hands on.
