Same. I wonder if I can somehow justify needing this for school :shifty:

So I got to try the Vive today, and while it was good it wasn't £700 good so I'm not as keen as I was to get myself a piece of VR action. Screen door effect was apparent on the under water demo too, which was very disappointing.

I'm hearing a lot of stories about screen door effect on HTC Vive, it's the worst screen of the big 3.

I noticed it while looking up to the surface of the water, so the lightest point in the scene (which I hear is what shows it the worst), and it was the last demo I went on so I'm not sure if it'd be prominent in other demos if I was looking out for it.

I was thinking more about it, and while it was interesting the best word I can think of to describe it is "gimic", although I wouldn't go that far. It really needs a killer app of some sort, and I didn't try any traditional games rather than VR specific ones so maybe it was just down to the quality of the software?

Still though, the screen door left a sour taste, and I've been so, so excited for VR.

Try out PlayStqtion VR and Rift, apparently screen door is barely noticeable.

Almost all the reports I've read (and I've read quite a few) indicate that it's noticable on all three if you look for it, but once you get immersed in a game or experience you stop noticing it.

It's happening. I just hope they don't charge until shipping, and that they don't ship until next Friday. I'll have money then.

Tomorrow is Vive Day :toot: ...

...but I won't have one

My bank rejected the transaction and then HTC cancelled my order. I haven't been able to get in touch with someone since Saturday when I was told that I would get a call back.

I got in contact with support through live chat today on this page:

http://www.htcvive.com/eu/support/contactus/

(it took a while before I actually got through though, lots of reloading the page and retrying the chat, but all in all it took less than an hour)
He helped me get through the ordering procedure again and made sure my new order took the place of my old one (well, I'll still be getting it in April at least, but I'm probably not part of the first wave).

You've had a chat with your bank as well to find out why it was rejected? Definitely get that sorted first if you haven't.

I sorted out my bank on Saturday morning and then used that chat. Someone told me that I'd get a call in half an hour but no one rang until the afternoon so I missed the call because I was busy. I didn't get a chance to use the chat at work today so I'm hoping that I will do tomorrow.

That being said, as there's no chance of me getting it on launch, I'm tempted to just cancel and wait for it to show up at other retailers that don't charge £50 for delivery. I accepted that when I was imagining getting it on launch, I even took the day off work, but now I'm more than happy to continue with games that I'm already playing as I don't want to waste any more time. I wasn't happy that I spent all of Saturday morning waiting for a phone call that cam hours after it was supposed to.

You might not get the preorder bundle games (Job Simulator, Fantastic Contraption and Tilt Brush) for free at retail though. Maybe not £50 worth, and maybe you're not interested in all of them.

But I definitely get not wanting to deal with support this bad with no certainty of success.

FYI I read on reddit that a member of the support team said they would be reinstating cancelled orders (because of bank issues) through this week only. After that any new preorders go to the back of the queue (and I imagine Vives will probably be at retail before then).

I'm not really interested in those games so I don't mind missing out on them and I don't mind waiting given that I'm more than likely to be playing other games for the next couple of months. I just feel that I shouldn't have to go though this much effort to hand over £750. I'd like to see what happens tomorrow in terms of other retailers, as it's the official launch, so I'll see how the rest of the week pans out before putting any real effort into contacting HTC again.

What's screen door effect?

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

The consequence of having a low pixel-density display being so close to your face that it takes up most of your field of view. You can see the pixel grid, like this:

(It's not as bad as this shot in consumer VR headsets, but it's still apparently noticeable)

Oh sure, I noticed that on Oculus DK1. But I was hoping this would be much better.

Totally unaffordable though.

There is only one game I am interested in for VR and that is DCS world - once one of you cool dudes get the VR head set, can you test it out for me (its free :toot:) mainly to see if the gauges and HUD etc.. are readable in VR

edit: I'd rather a review / recommendation for here than elsewhere :simper:
