Vive is the first-of-its kind virtual reality system developed in partnership by HTC and Valve. Designed from the ground up for room-scale VR, Vive combines state-of-the-art technologies into a complete system that includes video, audio and precise motion tracking.

Breathtaking visual experiences are provided by a headset that features a 110° field of view and 32 sensors for precise tracking for total immersion. The 2160 x 1200 resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate deliver detailed graphics and lifelike motion for smooth gameplay and realistic movement. Fluid interaction is provided by two wireless controllers, each with HD haptic feedback, dual-stage triggers, and multi-function trackpads. Each controller features 24 sensors for 360° one-to-one tracking that mirrors hand movements. Room-scale motion tracking is enabled by two base stations that sync wirelessly avoiding the need for additional cords.

Vive’s built-in convenience and safety features are seamlessly integrated for an uninterrupted experience. The Chaperone guidance system alerts you if you approach the boundaries of the play space, while a front-facing camera blends physical elements into the virtual world. These features, working in concert, allow Vive to transport users to worlds that are truly beyond the imagination. Discover Vive today, and see for yourself: THIS IS REAL.

Key features:
  • SteamVR Powered – Room-scale experiences, absolute tracking, chaperone guidance and everything you love about Steam, now in VR.
  • Room-scale – Two base stations enable 360˚ room-scale motion tracking let you roam around freely and explore anything–you’re at the center of the experience.
  • Headset – 32 sensors, 110° field of view, 2160 x 1200 resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate.

Nice. Going down the full-on aperture branding route would be a good idea for them I think, or if not then probably a few people will modify theirs to make it look like that.

Plus what are the odds that it'll come with a code for a tf2 hat version of the headset? :fp:

Low.

It'll be a Dota 2 set.

I'm actually getting to the point where I don't care about hl3. Thinking about it I don't know how they'll keep it fresh and interesting.

Good idea, Valve don't give a gooseberry fool about people begging them to make Half Life 3, so let's use reverse psychology and pretend we don't ever want to see it.

There's absolutely no way it can live up to expectations now though. Unless it's a literal gaming revolution, a game changer like the original Doom, it'll be a disappointment. I know it's Valve but even they have limits, and a lot of the original (or at least HL2) team have moved on.

That's the sort of logic I've been using, and you know that they know that too (Gabe has even said so I think in interviews). This leads me to believe their first VR title pretty much has to be HL3. There's no other way I can see for it to be truly ground breaking, which is what's expected of them.

All they have to do is end the damn story. Ending on a cliffhanger and then buggering off for eight years with no word is a piss take.

Yeah, that doesn't help things. They were meant to release 4 episodes dammit! The point was to not have this long a wait!

Could a mod please delete all the Half-Life 3 gooseberry fool in here?

Valve don't make games anymore, and the sooner you guys accept that the better.

Last year was the first time in 3 years they hadn't released a game. Last time they did that the year after they released Portal 2. And we know about Half Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, what ever F-Stop will be. It's fair to assume that if they're creating VR hardware and going to show the final version of their pad and more steam box stuff they have a game to show the features of these off.

They've said it will take 2 years for full VR stuff to come out so that means we will be waiting until 2017 for HL3.
