AMD are planning a VR unit with basically a laptop strapped to the back of your head, but I think it's more for augmented reality from what I remember. Be interesting to see if any of these take off.

I imagine in 10 years or so when we may have the possibilty of seeing todays top of the line pc performance in a phone sized system that may be great but at the moment I can't see them getting the power needed into anything that will be comfortable to use.

Best of wishes to anyone who straps AMD hardware to their face.

They aren't burn marks, they're just advanced tan lines.

HTC Vive is no longer under-supplied. All orders now ship within 2 days. Anyone looking to get rid of theirs for purchase price/profit just missed their chance.

On the other hand, second hand unit prices are about to drop if you're looking to get one.

Good stuff, any word on the retail release? I feel this really needs store presence to rake off.

My experience in Oxford Street PC World was spot on, they need to have more demo kiosks though. I get the feeling that Sony will have demo areas in every single UK shopping mall.

They say it's now available in select Gamespot and Microsoft Stores, but it looks like that refers to US only.

Scan say it's due in stock today: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/nda-htc ... nt-sensors

But PC World say by the 30th, but they might just be backordered themselves: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing ... 6-pdt.html

EDIT: Scan just shipped all today's stock so they're also backordered until the 30th now.

I've seen the lightsaber bits, judging by the logo you can also pilot an X-Wing?

Its made me tempted to actually buy one now.

Don't think I'm going to do it though, I think for my first gen VR experience I'll limit myself to PS VR and wait on PC for a better solution than currently exists.

Anyone in the East Midlands who wants to give this a go should go along to the National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham (http://gamecity.org/) as they have it set up for a demo. I had a go on Sunday and wasn't completely blown away which is making me re-consider my purchase of a PSVR. I don't know if it wasn't set up correctly for me but it seemed out of focus and there were obvious scan lines (the guy running the demo did say there was a focus adjustment on the side of the headset but that was after I'd finished). I was also probably a bit self conscious wandering around in a room full of people without seeing what I was doing so that took me out of the experience. All in all, if that is the best on the market for the foreseeable future then I might hang around for the 2nd gen versions (though PSVR content may sway me).

So my brother got a vive and I was able to test it today. Honestly not that impressed. It does add some depth to the in car view on Project Cars but other than that, meh. Its incredibly fuzzy as everything feels so low resolution. And to cap it off it melted my face as I got so hot under the headset. Plus it has left me with motion sickness.

At that price they are taking the absolute piss, I don't see how anyone could use that technology for anything more than short 10-15 minute blasts.
