I'm new to the beer world but even I know that the major brands are to be avoided. I certainly wouldn't pay for a pint of Fosters/Stella/Carlsberg etc in a pub, but I guess if you're at a festival or something like that and that's all there is...meh, I'd have a cider instead.

It is the exact same drink as it's all brewed over there. The difference comes with how fresh it is. Guinness being more popular in Ireland means you're less likely to go into a pub where they sell like one pint a day and so have the Guinness sitting around.

This is why I will normally only have a Guinness in places like Walkabout where you know they get through a lot of it.

Guiness is in a keg, condition and amount they serve is irrelivent as the beer never touches air until it goes into a glass so cant react with the air and go off.

Additionally transportation will do nothing as the beer has no "bits" like a case to get mixed up etc. the beer is dead not live so doesn't change or transform in the keg.

its not elitism; big commercial beer is swill.

Proved Himes point in your first sentence.

Exactly, it's strawberry floating nonsense. Much more to do with mainstream popularity than taste.

Doesn't an amount sit in the line between the barrel and the tap?

I was repeating the explanation as I was told it at a tasting session last year in the Guinness Storehouse. Of course they could be embellishing things for general marketing purposes, but I've certainly had bad pints of Guinness before (although that's not exactly scientific as my taste is going to vary day-to-day and how well or badly it is poured will change my perception).

Yeah true forgot about that bit, yeah it can have an impact for the first couple depending on how long the lines are. Also depends on the cleanness of the lines too guiness lines are a dick to clean.

My poijt i guess was that there isnt fundamentally a difference between an Ireland guiness and any other the differences are gooseberry fool pub staff and landlords.

In Sainsbury's at the moment (300-330ml):

Bud Light: 58p per bottle
Budweiser: 60p per bottle
Stella Artois: 93p per bottle
Craft beer: £1.80 per bottle.

There's why one sells more than the other. A lot of the craft beers in the shops are also produced by the big brands in secret. Some tell you in small print, whereas others pull an Allison's bread and say nothing (they're Kingsmill).

It costs more because it costs considerably more to make, even a macro made craft beer costs a hell of a lot more to make.

Complaining it costs more is like complaining that a Bugatti Varon costs more than a Ford KA one costs a shi load more to produce and so costs more.

Craft beer is reassuringly expensive.

I'm not complaining it costs more, I'm just saying when people want more than 1 beer in the evening they're obviously going to buy a mainstream brand.

Most people care less about taste and just like getting ratarsed.

I like Corona, I drink Corona. I know a lost will turn their noses up, but it's nice. I have also recently taken up trying new beers and some are nice some a shite. I guess people don't like spending money on things that they may not like.

Yeah there is definitely no elitism

It isn't better at all, craft beer might cost more to buy in bulk but it's the same price in a pub. I'm sure craft beer drinkers turn there nose up at the likes of Hop House, Camden Hell's, Punks IPA, etc because they're slightly more mainstream now.

I couldn't give a monkeys who makes it as long as it is made properly and tastes damn good.

Hop house is a lazy attempt at a craft lager, it tastes like every piss lager out there, a proper craft lager is a wonderful thing.

I've nerve been much of Camden fan I've always found them a bit bland.

Crasft beer is fundamentally better than piss lager it just is in quality of product, flavour etc. In a pub it also costs more as it will usually be the sam price for 1/2 or 2/3 as a point of piss.

You might enjoy other beers more but they are no more worthy of the price.

No it isn't, at all. I have never seen craft beer at a significantly higher price, at least not to be the deciding factor on a person's choice.
