I would have thought the telephone should be number one, not even mobile phones. Actually, scratch that, the electric telegraph was the first instance of true telecommunications and therefore marked the start of the information age.

I missed this, I take it it was full of Fry's Apple fanboyism. I do love him, but it gets tiresome. Oh and Apple didn't revolutionise the music industry, or invent the MP3 player. They were riding the digital download revolution made possible by faster internet speeds. I mean I could download almost CD quality music, at only 40 mins per song! Dat 56K.

Apple just made MP3 players cool and outlasted the competition. The same with their music store, it's only popular because of the iPod.

There's not that many alternatives, lots of smaller ones lost the battle. I've used Amazon a few times. It's fairly painless, as cheap or cheaper than iTunes and I have DRM free music. To be honest though piracy is still the cheapest option :shifty:

I didn't have a problem with the lighter being number one but surely the fridge freezer should have been in the top 100!

There was no Apple fanboyism in the show at all really.

How the strawberry floating lighter one though :fp: Box of matches creates instant fire too. That apple peeler should have taken the surprise of the night. It was amazing

That's an appliance though. Same reason the cooker, oven, washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer weren't in the list.

So toasters and sandwich toasters are gadgets but a fridge is an appliance?

I bet Fry would have put an iFridge in the list.

It revolutionised the way we store food, by tying you into only buying food from the iFood store (which wont keep in any other fridge) and becoming redundant after two years. Oh yeah and it's designed to be a featureless chamfer box in black (white version available later).

And it refuses to work if you try and clean it with this:

Off topic, but if I buy a song from Amazon music is a once only download or can I download it again and again?

Once only. 7digital, on the other hand allows you to re-download on demand, although it tends to be a bit more expensive. Dunno about Beatport and Juno Download.

I think he said at the beginning that for it to be classed as a 'Gadget' on his list, it had to be portable.

Small stuff like toasters are, big things like a fridge aren't.

It has coasters and a carry strap (sold separately).

It's nice that the anti apple brigade can vent in more than one thread.

The Ipod was, is and always will be an iconic work of genius.

Deal with it.
