Absolutely awesome from beginning to end.

I was worried it’d be a disappointment after Season 1, but it was as good if not better.

Apparently the guy who plays Jonathan has been deported from the US. They found cocaine residue on him.

Five episodes in and it's a great follow-up. Definitely designed to be binge watched, it feels more like a 7-hour film than an episodic TV show. Slaps on the nostalgia too thick but the characters are all brilliant, including the new additions. I do have a problem with Dustin's plot thread so far I know horror shows/movies are full of people doing stupid things, but why the strawberry float is he so determined to raise a strawberry floating DEMOGORGON as a pet :fp:

Because he doesn’t know it’s a demogorgon?

I'm up to the end of episode 6.

Thoughts:

- The whole 1st ep was dull. Retrod old ground and added very little to the mix
- Picked up by 2nd, and I was fully back on board by the end of the third. Some really disturbing imagery this time around
- Eps 4/5/6 were great in general, but much clumsier than the first series. A lot more filler too (all the stuff with the Conspiracy Guy, all of Eleven's storyline)

Entertainment wise it's fun, great characters remain great and there's and some nice dialogue. But it's proving, episode by episode, just how little a direct sequel to the first series was needed narratively. The Upside Down was perfect in the first series, ambiguous enough to be terrifying yet it was given enough screen time to be intriguing. Here, the shadow monster is just a McGuffin. It's not a character or a presence, it's just an absence that the script tells us is bad.

Then there's the aforementioned filler; there is some serious sloppiness here. Whereas all of the localised plot threads in the original were linked and came together as a whole by the end, this time there are multiple narratives that are completely seperate. Everything with Eleven is redundant for example. We were told what happened to her mother last season we don't need it spelled out again. Same with how she returned after defeating the Demagorgon, we didn't need 2 episodes of flashbacks for this. I've heard Ep 7 is both entirely Eleven based and the first real 'bad' episode the show has produced.

It also smacks of 'the same but bigger' as the general plot ia extremely similar (something happens to Will, Joyce figures it out using weird stuff around her house, Steve fights Demagorgons with a bat, there's tension over a girl, one of the gang is jealous of an outsider etc etc). A definite case of the Ghostbuster 2s.

I'm still enjoying it, but the last 3 eps are going to have to be amazing to bring everything together.

At first, no, but then it's eating his cat and shows him those demogorgon pearly whites and he's still apologising to it, being protective of it

Watched the final episode, Snowball

Excellent series, it manages to run a lot of themes, and in general, succeeds at them portraying them. Bring on a third season.

True, but he is kind of proved right towards the end when he still has a bond with Dart.

Just a note for other peeps here: Skippy's original spoilers were for ep 5. Moggy's was in response to that so I clicked through...to find a mild finale spoiler. Just a heads up.

I’d suggest not opening unlabelled spoiler boxes unless you’ve seen it all.

I can’t believe they killed off Dustin and Lucas!

It's pretty clear that could play out in the finale from where the storyline seems to be heading, but I clearly said I was only five eps in. Finale spoilers are not cool my dude

I don't want to see this devolve into another big argument about spoilers, so can I just reiterate that when in doubt, label spoilers with episode numbers. It's pretty easy. Just type E06 test or
E05
test

I think this should solve the issue in future. Thanks all.

I really don’t understand why people discuss a show like this before they’ve caught up with the latest episodes. You said you were 5 episodes in last night, how the hell am I supposed to know where you’ve got to by this morning?

Apologies if I’ve spoiled anything but you’re probably best not opening any of my spoiler boxes as I have no idea what happened in which episode, I binged the lot.

As Karl said, let's just all make sure we label everything just to be safe.

Fin.

Should finish this tonight hopefully. Not looking forward to the next episode which I've heard is pretty much all filler that takes away from the main plot. HUM.

I think I know what episode you are referring to. I thought it was good, not sure what the fuss was about it.

Would recommend watching Beyond Stranger Things once you've watched all season 2 it's well worth a watch to get a glimpse into the minds of the Duffers.
