Onto Ep 8 of Mindhunters so hopefully will get to this by next week. Super excited.

Also, have people been noticing the trend towards hating on the first season? At least 2 journos I follow (Tom Philips and Robbie Collins for reference) have stated that not only do they dislike the first series but that it was cheap nostalgia bait TV with no redeeming qualities at all.

Which is, you know, bollocks.

You get that with anything, some people just love to have a contrary opinion to everybody else.

I think the first season of Stranger Things was helped by knowing absolutely nothing about it. I went in completely blind really, all I knew was it was set in the 80s.

I am hoping that familiarity will not hurt the new season and that it can still surprise me.

And hopefully Barb is nowhere to be seen.

Oh I agree, but the odd thing here is that Collins was arguing that it was actually bad. As in, incompetently made. He's a decent film reviewer, if a bit harsh, but to see someone whose opinion I generally trust attempt to state that one of the best TV shows of the past few years was in the same category as disasters like Transformers was just....weird.

The only criticism I could give of this show is Winona Ryder. Her overacting annoyed me. I assume it will be better this season, as she maybe won't be as hysterical.

Everything else about it, was nailed. Which, for a show mainly consisting of child actors, is a great achievement. The kid with the teeth condition was hilarious at times.

2 episodes in and it's just as awesome as season 1.

Got to love the 80's nostalgia :)

I understand where he's coming from, but it's not a complaint I would level at Stranger Things of all things. Out of all the retro 80s/90s cash-in shite that's been coming out lately Stranger Things is the one that's done it the best.

I don't know if anyone has played Stories Untold on PC. It's a brilliant game, but the level to which they've (badly) copied Stranger Things' aesthetic and tried to go down the 'woah cool 80s spookiness!' route is frankly embarrassing.

:o

Yeah, the episode 'intro' is full on a Stranger Things rip-off. Not an homage, a rip off. You're right the though, the game itself is exceptional (took me ages to get past the opening episode though. That jump-scare. :dread:

Phonemonal second season it was 9 episodes but I liked the pacing and it made really good use of the extra episode.

I think it'd arguably stronger than the first season but that's not to take anything away from season 1 and the foundations it put in place.

Just finished episode 4 and this is great! Easily on par with first series and nothing feels forced. Often when carrying on from a neat self contained series the writers struggle to find things for each character to do and so storylines feel crowbarred in. This all feels natural so far and still has that creepy mystery vibe that hooks you.

Just in from work and need to stay up for nightshift tomorrow. Ordered a massive dominos and got some pudding. Cannot wait to get stuck in.

Yeah I saw his article but decided not to read it until I'd finished season 1. It still made me pause for thought though, as I was so enjoying the season.

But then again I think Robbie Collin is one of the best film reviewers around for his insight and writing, but I don't always find his taste overlaps with mine at all. See also: Peter Bradshaw.

Finished Season 2 tonight. Enjoyed it a lot - which I'm chuffed about as I did worry that continuing the story would bugger it all up. The new cast members have all been great additions.
