I'm really enjoying this (it looks lovely, the weapons are typically Insomniac, and after a dodgy try-hard first couple of hours I'm starting to like the humour more), but it's another eye-opener as to how developers should think more about new gamers. The beginning of Sunset Overdrive - being chucked into a big battle with enemies - would have been fine for me as someone who's been playing games for pretty much all my life, but for my girlfriend it proved to be an exercise in frustration. Loads of control inputs to memorise while having to wrestle with the camera, navigate to different areas and learn how to shoot straight all at the same time... the overwhelming nature of the beginning nearly made her give up. It's quite the learning curve.

Maybe the game wasn't designed to cater for new gamers, but why on Earth not? It's a pack-in title for a current gen console. Why not have a skippable tutorial for new players? Maybe even make it a separate option. The more new genres she tries, the more I see how developers are failing new gamers. The industry is shooting itself in the foot by making games that are too intimidating for them to pick up. This is what the Wii got right, I guess.

The game keeps introducing new enemies. Love the leapers and the dialogue is just epic. 2 Predator references in one game 8-)

Jurassic Park too.

Favorite weapon so far is the hair spray weapon but the TNT teddy is also great. Just unlocked the machine gun which is great for certain enemy types.

Wish my image sig would work

This is just not clicking with me so far. I like the world, the art style etc but...something seems off.

I get bored quickly. I'm not that far in mind (I just met some geeks hiding ) after riding a train.

Bit underwhelmed by this so far. Constant cannon fodder enemies, no pedestrians, try-hard dialogue, poor missions...it just seems a little directionless, a bit mindless. Too much style over substance.

Does the time to play start at 12.01 EST or when your download is finished and you first boot it up? Pretty pointless if it's the latter.

Exactly this.

So far it feels like the story is headed nowhere . It looks cool but....feels...pointless.

What I dislike about the gun combat is basically the fact that you simply *must* be grinding or bouncing for success. Run about on terra firma and you be dead in double quick time. Like, if you somehow find yourself in a good spot, the game will spawn enemies behind you, forcing you to move. I see that as a bad thing. I expected better from Insomniac than this.

These fetch missions are doing my strawberry floating head in.

This is one of the down falls of digital games, can't return the strawberry floater.

It gets much better when you get the high bounce and the air-dash and can properly chain moves together. Similarly, when you've amassed more amps and weapons and you can fill up your Style meter much more easily, combat is more entertaining.

It's absolutely crying out for those 2 moves already. And I could have sworn that I figured out how to wall-run on my own, the game hasn't told me.
I'll stick with it for now, but it's not a patch on the 2 games it's blatantly copying - Ratchet & Clank and Infamous.

Yeah I only found out I could wall-run when I did it accidentally. The air dash really should be available from the off, I can't see any good reason for it not to be.
