OK...thinking about this but I'm sure there will be differing opinions.
On a regional basis Europe seems to be neck and neck in hardware sales. In America XBOX360 is outselling the PS3 but, in Japan, the PS3 is outselling the XBOX360. I mean, in one buzz-charged FFXIII orgasmic frenzy for PS3 this week, it's wiped out 232,000 US unit sales.
Could Japan be contributing to steadying the ship on a WW basis and, in some cases, help the deficit in the US? And is it doing it enough, since the launch of the slim, to accelerate parity with the XBOX360 on a worldwide basis?

It certainly could. I expect to see PS3 sales catch up with 360 ones in a couple of years, worldwide.
It doesn't really matter anymore. No matter what happens from this point forward, both systems will finish with respectable hardware numbers and the software libraries will be 95% identical.
All that remains are PR bragging rights and jostling for position ahead of the next generation.
So how long before the PSPGo ggets a price drop? I know someone from Sony said recently they are selling more than they expected but those figures are awful.

At the end of the gen? who'd have thought it after the 100 million difference last gen?
I guess the interesing thing will be to see if the 360 slim and Natal (along with price cuts) boost it again in those areas, thus cancelling out the Japan difference (I can't see japan seling those volumes every week).
In reality they are very equal and you can't go wrong whatever you get. The biggest difference is the fairly poor software sales for ps3 in the USA and the very poor ones for 360 in Japan. MS's gamble has paid off if they've managed to equal the giant in just their second gen (though i think ps3 will be a good 10 million past them in the end but that's stll a huge gain for them).
