I don't know but I would have thought that this kind of thing would be more the domain of, say, the IEEE.

Or is that a completely retarded conclusion to come to?

Fixed, Japan and Korea will be using this tech long before us.

Even better. I thought the UN just dealt with, you know, all war and that.

When browsing Currys* for a new TV in 2025 make sure it has the 7680p badge on it.

Not really, for example I can see people using 4320p TVs to view 32mp photos up close in the same way people like 'retina display' for looking at text close up.

Doesn't 35mm film roughly translate to 2160p? What resolution is The Hobbit being recorded in?

Just to update, 35mm translates to 4k, so if you had a 2160p and watched a movie at full resolution (24fps) you'd be getting the exact same image quality as the original film.

The Hobbit is one of the first ever movies to be shot at 5k 48fps, so I'm guessing you'd have to wait for 8k TV to experience that at home (even though 5k wouldn't use all the lines).

I don't understand the reason for 120fps being included in the 8k standard as most people can't tell the difference between 120fps and 60fps :|

Don't think I've ever seen a game that was over 60fps. I've played games on a 120hz screen before and noticed a slight difference, but that might be down to the screen quality as much as anything.

I guess 120fps will be useful in 3D to give the effect of the video being 60 FPS.

That's exactly what it's for.
