With it being free on Game Pass I thought I'd chuck a thread together.

So with the copyright infringement money Sega will get for this can we have Dreamcast 2 please?

Oops, didn't realise there was a dedicated thread for this. Anyway yeah, just started playing it - considering the meh reviews I'm having an unexpected amount of fun playing it. Just done the first 3 worlds mind (got all 4 clovers on all of them) but so far I think it's just a pleasant little game, nothing particularly inspiring though.

What, cos it contains a fox and bouncy things?

A fox wearing trainers who has exactly the same facial structure as Tails (orange upper face with hairy white cheeks jutting out) - incidentally neither look anything like a real fox just like Sonic looks nothing like a hedgehog, but they don't look like a fox in exactly the same way. Chop off the second tail and decrease the charm by Dreamworkifying the character and you basically have the same thing. It's "Bootleg Tails doll from a 1993 half-term funfair: THE GAME..."

Not sure how else you'd draw a cartoon fox. What an odd thing to say.

Are you taking the piss? Can you seriously not think of any other way to depict a cartoon fox? Not maybe one with a downwardly triangular face instead of an upwardly one? Not maybe one without giant, elongated oval eyes that take up most of the upper portion of the face? Not maybe one without the whole belly being white? Really, not one other way?

Genuinely didn't think what I said was this controversial

I think you're overthinking it somewhat. The fact that Sega haven't taken any legal action suggests there isn't anything in it. They obviously look similar because they're both cartoon foxes, but there are enough differences there for me.

For what it's worth I still think it's awful character design, looks like it's been knocked up in a corporate board room in about an hour. But this complaint could sadly be levelled at most platformers these days (I'm looking at you, Yooka-Laylee).

I have to admit that I hadn't really thought that Lucky looked like a Sega creation. Super generic and immemorable, sure, but not much of a copy. I would like to try the game out if I had an Xbox, though.

Who’d waste their game time on something as uninspired and insipid as this? With everything else out there that’s available. Unless you want to keep a 7 year old entertained, or whatever.

I saw it was free on Game Pass so tried it out, but it really isn't as bad as a lot of reviews are making out, at least not the first few levels/worlds. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some fun with it. It's no Hat in Time or Mario Odyssey for sure, but I don't think it's supposed to be.

I probably won't end up finishing it though.

If it's published by Microsoft then expect a MonkeyMan thread that he'll bump every time someone tweets about it.

There's too many good games out right now for this to even appear on anyone's radar, yet alone contemplate playing.

It’s not a bad game and it’s free*, and I was just showing my 7 year old the mechanics before she tried on her Xbox. It’s a little too derivative however.

*in Game Pass.

Brilliant

I think one thing this game shows is that we're absolutely starved of good 3D platformers these days, Mario Odyssey, Ratchet Remake and , at a push, Yooka Laylee are the only good ones I can think of.

I found out about the game via this thread and saw the resemblance immediately. I think there are more similarities than differences personally, but clearly Sega disagree! I do maintain there are plenty of ways to draw a fox though

Dowbo’s only getting mad about trainer-wearing, weird faced anthropomorphic foxes because he is, in fact, an actual fox.

Played the 1st couple of worlds getting about 25 clovers. Solid game and a nice variety of levels. Difficulty just about right. Will finish it but not 100% finish.
