999 Seriously

That's the max you can get but not the actual number of unique moons right?

As in, that is the maximum you can get to if you just buy moons from the shop.

Correct, I think the actual number of moons without buying from the shop is 883

I'm saving this game for the Christmas holidays...it deserves more time than I can give it at the moment, and I cannot wait :)

I foolishly wasted a lot of coins on moons from the shop as I thought you had to buy them, didn’t realise they were infinite! What a stupid idea!

The skipping mini game is making me feel like I’m never going to 100% this. So. Much. Rage.

I'm getting toward the end of the main campaign. I think I might have rushed through a little bit, especially the earlier levels. Can't wait to do it all again, exploring properly.

It's a big call for a game I've only owned for two weeks, but this is edging towards being my game of the forever. So much joy.

Post game

When the castle and stars and music of Mario 64 came up I thought they had remade the whole game and added it in. While I was amazed I was also disappointed

PLAY | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth [92h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S2, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18
RACE | Westonbirt Half (March), Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Same here. For a glorious moment I thought, "you did it, you crazy sonofabitch to did it!". I reckon it's coming as DLC...

Do it 'properly until you get to 50 jumps and then just hammer the jump button without looking at the screen to distract you. That's how I did it and it took a while.

I did it with 30 mins of solid effort.

Use the "hey" as your marker, try to only tap A, so you only do the smaller jump and don't start Mario's triple jump sequence as you'll stay in the air for longer on the second jump. Like Ad says, once you hit 50 you should be into a rhythm and not really thinking about it. And don't look at the counter once you're past 50...

I spent awhile getting to 50-55 and then as soon as I settled into the rhythm I jumped straight to 100.

Hardest parts of the game are done, now it's just a mop up.

Ooh interesting, I wouldn't have said those were the hardest moons to get.

I'm itching to get back to this and grab some more moons, been distracted by Xenoblade. One thing I would've liked was some more really challenging moon's in the post game - really putting the player through their paces!

I found it really tough more because of the controls than the actual challenge I think. The amount off rolls that turned in to a long jump wall face plant were infuriating.

I haven't completed the Darker Side yet but have all the moons bar 20 or so on the Moon and I don't think anything is that challenging except the volleyball 100 hits moon which I cheesed with the 2 player mode. A few have definitely been more difficult but nothing that wasn't achieved within 10-15 minutes of practice.

100% complete AT LAST!

I managed the skip rope on my second try but the volley ball I sucked at ( ended up using player 2 to complete it ) and darker side of the moon I did use the flying dinosaur thing to skip a large section as the bit with the woodpecker bird can go eat a dick, for me THAT was the hardest part.

Off now to see if I can finally do the final star in MARIO Galaxy 2... probably be harder now as use to Cappys move set

What's this trick then? Because the woodpecker is the reason I haven't completed darker side (I got past it, died in the 2D section, and then got annoyed when I tried again twice and died both times because I accidentally rotated in the air when trying to peck).

When you capture the flying dinosaur thing hold b as normal and constantly shake the controller like Michael J Fox and hit the thermals and you can keep enough height to fly over the part with the fork flinging and over the pipe and land just before the bowser painting. Or if you get really good you can fly around that section too and go straight to the end pipe.

Or you can skip the whole level with a glitch... YouTube it

Just had the credits roll. What. A. Game. And still so much more to do in it, only finished with 230 moons. Now to explore the Mushroom Kingdom  can’t wait to get stuck into the end game.

The dinosaur flying part is causing me untold trouble. I don’t get enough height most of the time and end up dying.

I haven't remotely master it yet either. It's annoying.

Practice on the flying dragon in the sand kingdom. Just press jump and don't touch the controls, waggle away and it'll keep at mostly the same height for ages.
