Aka the biggest disappointment ever. It's a decent game, but it's not a '3D Mario' in the same sense it was lead up to be.

I disagree. It’s a superb entry and a little underrated as a Mario game in my opinion. Level design is great and I think it has a higher quality/quantity ratio than Odyssey. It’s brilliant fun in multiplayer too.

Hmm i really enjoyed SM3DW (and Land on the 3DS). Odyssey is a great game but I preferred the level design, the harder challenge of the last one. And the soundtrack is great too

Yeah 3D World is good, it was just made out to be the next 3D Mario. Then you sit down to play and find you can only go in 8 directions and it's like what. The levels are pretty short and the game is easy until the final level. Most of the collectibles are easy to find bar maybe a few. Multiplayer can be fun, but it has the same problem as the other Marios where you end up just getting in each others' way, bouncing off and killing each other, etc.

Tbh, I probably am underselling it a bit, it just feels too much like a generic 2D mario which we have plenty of already.

Just turned my switch on and saw this on the news feed

I'm off to see easy it is now :toot:

Edit: Just found it. It's a pixel Luigi that gives you some coins, and reacts a bit if you run through him and jump on him

Overall, i now rank this behind 64, sunshine and both galaxy games, but ahead of 3d land and 3d world.

The sheer number of stupid moons makes this game bloated for the sake of it and the levels are just not good enough. I wish the game was a bit more epic.

Upon careful reflection i would give this 8/10.

Deserves it, stunning game. :toot:

That is a truly astonishing number of sales given how early we are in the lifespan of the Switch as well - I'm not sure if any PS4 exclusives are regularly hitting that number of sales now and that's in an install base that must be about 5x higher!

It’s a fantastic attach rate on hardware numbers of 18m

Finally started this yesterday. Really enjoying it but a bit worried that the satisfaction of finding moons is already fading. I stopped when I made it to the Lake Kingdom. Although I did pop into New Donk City via a warp but it was a very isolated location. I've found 65 moons.

As much as I prefer the more linear design of the Galaxy games its very enjoyable to play a Mario where I can stand and take in a view and then just run off to whatever I fancy again. Boss fights are ace so far. Nothing demanding but just packed with personality and little ideas.

Game is gorgeous. Slightly let down there isn't a terrifying and hilarious cut scene whenever you capture something new. :slol: "ribbit"

Ah, it’s wonderful to watch someone discovering SMO for the first time! :D My only real gripe about the game, and possibly yours, is that the Moons are so ubiquitous as to sometimes feel inconsequential. The joy of exploration and discovery more than outweighs this.

(Tostarena exploration spoiler) Fishing Lakitu is such a lovely touch!

Also mine. Less moons, of better quality would be my preference.

They repeat way too many as well.

I like the many moon approach, it enhances the games capability as a pick-up and play for 5 minutes option - there is always something new to discover and achieve in that time.

If you prefer a longer game session then there are plenty of more involved moons and the game makes it very clear that the critical path is through these. There's no requirement to collect every single moon.

I too have no problems with moons all over the place. The koopa foot races on the other hand... :dread:

Been playing a fair amount over the passed couple of weeks, it's perfect for a quick 5 minutes or a couple of hours. Nearly at 700 moons now.

There’s not, but I think a game should be judged by all the content it has to offer and there are way too many filler moons in my opinion.

For example, the Goomba romance moon was great the first time. And one or two more with slight variations would be fine but they use it 6/7 times. That’s too much repetition and it dilutes the quality.

I absolutely think that the ubiquity of the Moons makes collecting any Moon, even the more involved ones, feel lesser than Shines or Stars. Supply and demand, innit.

I feel like having a lesser collectible, like Blue Coins (but not as lesser as coins), would have maintain the pick-up-and-play nature without sacrificing the top-of-the-world feeling when you find a Moon. At the same time, I don’t feel like a bit Mario game should need to feel pick-up-and-play! It should be a big game you sink your teeth into. That’s certainly how I played it regardless.

I think it's great that two people can complete the game with a hugely different set of moons, and yet be able to talk about and understand each other's experience because while the details differ, the repeated content means they still both got similar enough experiences without missing out on much.

It's when you go for completion that the repetition becomes problematic, and that's when I stopped playing.

Everything in the game is just an excuse to play with the amazing movement anyway!
