Looks similar to Lucky Charms with those marshmallows. Honestly the worst cereal I've ever eaten in my entire life. Awful stuff. Now, if it came with a toy I could understand it.

I like that some of the optional motion controls aren't ever signposted, it makes it nicer to discover them as a surprise. Case in point: the sword-nosed-birds do a little (and useful) mid-air swing - it even tilts to the right/left depending on which way you flick the controller - and the swimming cheep cheeps do a water vortex thing.

In terms of not using motion controls for Mario - I know that doing a spin with cappy does his cappy-loop-de-loop, and pressing cappy after a ground pound does his floor roll cappy. But is there a non-motion control way to do Mario's air-chuck cappy?

Also, I love the fluidity of using cappy, and how it syncs with Mario's movement rhythms. The one thing I'd have liked is an excuse to use the fact that cappy is still 'active' when flying back to you. It feels cool when you chuck cappy and then manoeuvre yourself so that the return trajectory hits something. If there was a mini-stage that maxed out this concept it'd be a great excuse to feel like a high-level cap-chucking badass. So far most of the other mechanic/capture has been well milked and taken to their logical end-point in the tube-stages, but not the core Mario cappy moveset.

Edit: Playing this game with split controllers, arms akimbo with the odd motion control flick, feels so good. I wonder if it'll rival Skyward Sword for my favourite ever gamefeel. The only thing I'd change is that the cappy-loop-de-loop feels slightly awkward with the parallel double controller swipe in the same direction. Would have been easier and more intuitive if you could just flick the controllers towards each other to activate it - like crossing their beams to make an X.

I'm up to 870 moons and all purple coins collected but it's increasingly looking like I've hit my skill ceiling in the game so I'm not sure if I'll complete the final eight challenges. Which annoys me.

I might buy the Pro controller to see if that helps.

On 676 myself and just working World to World. Cap and Cascade done on Sand now with about 3 Moons to get before moving on to the next. I'd already collected all purple coins before finishing the game with the exception of 1 World I think.

Related - Is there a non-motion controls way to quick climb? Seems a bit of an odd decision putting motion controls into a handheld game with no alternatives. Feels like quite a non-Nintendo oversight, so there’s gotta be another way, right?

I think you just tap Y repeatedly to climb faster, it's certainly a tap of one of the buttons that does it.

There are very few controls that can only be done by motion, although a few things (like fast climb, fast roll etc.) can only reach "top speed" with motion controls.

I'm on 820 moons and I've decided to give this a break until closer to Christmas.

Thst strawberry floating skipping finally did it. 94 jumps AGAIN.

Holding Y down seems to climb faster, too. If you cba tapping.

I have decided to abandon all the free running moons as I simply hate trying to get them. I find them far too stressful. I think it's the only ones I have not enjoyed aiming to get so far. Even the skipping one was appealing to me.
I actually took a break from this game a couple of weeks back and was not convinced I would return to it, but I'm so glad I did. About 40 hours spent on it now, 630 moons in and looking forward to mopping up a few more of those moons during the run up to Christmas.

Free running, as in the ones where you don't have Cappy? Or is that what the Koopa racing ones are called? I quite enjoy those ones although there are a few where I wish the "round 2" race was a bit harder - most of them my time in the first win was good enough to win the second moon.

Had a bit of a pause on this myself - about 40 hours played since release and I don't want to drain it all too quickly!

These are the ones I meant. I just seem to get horribly disoriented by them, but that’s more a failing of me than the game. All the other moons have been really fun, so that’s a pretty good ratio!

Top tip, see who comes first and follow his route for an easy win, same with the gold one.

You can also pause and restart the race if you mess up. :)

I found spamming long jump meant none of them could keep up with me. It feels cheap though.
