All these complaints over Moon challenges and no mention of the Volleyball or Skipping ones? :dread:

I've 4 to get and those two are the absolute worst...

You can cheese the volleyball one with the two player mode.

I don't think the skipping one is as bad as is suggested. You just need to get into the rhythm. I think I spent 20 minutes practicing and got it.

Skipping definitely isn’t fun, but it’s quite a minor issue.

All of them are really. SMO is my second favourite game ever.

This man knows. Just traversing and messing about is an end in itself in Odyssey.

The only thing that its lost maybe is the belly-flop roll-tuck back into running from 64, which felt so smooth. But the Cappy bouncing (more-than) compensates.

It ruined |Tropical Freeze for me though, which I've now deleted. So woolly and lacking in momentum (I have to standstill-stop to pound the ground - what?)

Also; I too am in the moon-happy camp - they might not have been the singular set-pieces of previous games but I found the constant fix of achievement and the lighter, looser vibes and designs of the challenges appealing.

I lurve dis game.

Also I'm not sure what makes this less 'epic' than other games to others?

They repeat way too many as well.

Aye. Played a bit more. 89 moons now. Lake Kingdom is  to look at. But I've already encountered another fishing bit which did nothing to differ from the one before and for some annoying reason it took about 10 mins for the fish to bite and it was really boring. Did another thing with a seed but at least the journey you go on is always different.

Small nitpick but it annoys me that things like the zip sections (which are pure  ) reset so I have do them again. Also that secret moons that glow show no signs of having been collected until you've unearthed them. Actually this kind of ties into the moons loosing their meaning a bit. I've actually refound a few hidden ones because I forgot I got them already. Oh look glowing green thing! Ohhhh I got that already.

I love playing it. Its a joy that keeps putting me on my toes. Now you are THIS and now fight a boss and now you are THIS instead and then you are 2D and then you cant use cappy.

Anyways. Moved onto the Wooden Kingdom. Gonna play some more before work. :toot:

Absolutely. The game just feels incredible, the movement is so refined by this point and the cappy additions are so well integrated and expand what you can do in so many interesting ways!

I've said it before about some of the push back people have expressed on the "padding" moons - if I got to the end of Mario 64 back in the day and the game told me it was going to offer me a bunch of remixed challenges as reasons to go back into those worlds again then I would have bitten it's hand off!

When the basic mechanics are this good then any reason to dive back in is good in my book! :toot:

Also it probably has the best soundtrack ever, so that kind of helps. :D

That's not a question.

Really wish they'd just hurry up and release the sunshine DLC.

Oh yes, the ending!

That was such a great sequence, and one of many in the game overall. Odyssey is easily the game which wins my award for "most time spent grinning like an idiot whilst playing"!

THIS GAME  THIS BLOODY GAME :datass:

:toot: :toot: :toot:

Progress report- 159 moons. And I have all the purple coins for Cascade, Lake, Wooded and Lost Kingdoms.

Last night I made it to Metro Kingdom and did the bit you do at the start there. :o :D :datass: :toot: I was ready for finishing up the Wooded Kingdom (for now) and heading there and then all that stuff happened and I didn't get to sleep till gone 2. :slol: My mad grin kept me awake. Think the Wooded Kingdom is my fav so far. Its the density of the platforming that really helps. Also being the pot plant onion things. The transformations really work well. The stretchy accordion wiggler things. Absolute genius. Oh and............ Bowser killed me. :fp: :slol: bloody sneaky tail spin at the end. :x  The boss design in this is superb. Spot on for Mario.

Time to post too much stuff to Twitter.

Up to 211 Moons now.

Metro Kingdom is a joy to play about in but I thought some of the objectives were a little weak. Some were fantastic obviously but stuff like finding the musicians was a bit of a bore. Especially as I'd already spoken to them. :x It lacked a captured form that brought it together to. The tank is fun as strawberry float but couldn't be used within the level the same way as previous ones. I love finding stuff but sometimes I'd like to do something to earn things more often. Case in point- so far all the warps to other levels have just been to cut off areas to collect a star and they have not even been that tricky to find. Could I not have at least have a small challenge to do when I get there? Banjo Tooie did this better.

Oh and I'm missing just 3 purple coins from here :x

Anyway. Still having so much fun. Think I'm going to the snow one next as I might be able to trick myself into feeling cooler.

Metro Kingdom has some of the best challenges though! The festival is a high point of the game, and it's a bit hidden but I loved the scooter T-rex escape.

This. Odyssey is the 3D Mario that made me smile the most. Galaxy 2 is the 3D Mario with the best level design. 64 is the one with the biggest nostalgia factor. Unable to pick a " best" out of those three.

Odyssey definitely needs DLC. Surprised they haven't announced it yet. Besides their cameo as a hairpiece for Japanese Peach, Boos are missing from this game so hopefully we get a haunted mansion DLC around the time Luigi's Mansion 3DS releases.
