Looks like a platforming game to me.

There's plenty of platforming in this watching the gameplay now, but it's more "emergent platforming". Like the plaza, beach and hotel areas in Sunshine, that I really liked.

I much prefer the world building in Mario that was in that game, than the platforming that gets pretty old pretty quickly. I mean serious how many 2D mario games have we had now, it's ridiculous. If you want that, play NSMB (there are like 4 of those games!!) or 3D World or 3D Land (that have different levels). On top of that, there's Galaxy 1 and 2 that still looks brilliant. I'm not convinced most people have played all of these games, and yet want more of something they had before Like nearly exactly the same experience. Well, Nintendo are at their best when they don't do that, in my view. I like this new Nintendo.

I think they're treating this quite similarly to Zelda and trying to make a more open game that's less rigid, like Ratchet & Clank or even Banjo-Kazooie. Nobody could claim the latter isn't a platforming game - it just had a spiritual sequel released harking back to those times that raised millions! And this is probably going to be considerably better, since Nintendo can make a camera (usually) and their level design is consistently good.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

How did they go from the soundtrack in the Galaxy games to that jazz :dread:

It looks good but I do worry that it might be a bit divisive.

I'm going to sound like a massive yes man, but I like the NY jazz. :simper:

It's going to be interesting to see how it pans out as Sunshine was praised for being a pure out and out platformer. I can actually see the need to do something different, I just hope it doesn't go too much down the Sunshine route as I never really enjoyed that game as much as the others.

Are you really surprised? REALLY? What with the way gamers are, really? Look at all the pissing and moaning about it being the worst E3 in years.

This looks fan-frickin-tastic. I love the range of stuff they've thrown at it. Continuously inventive.

I forsee a Switch in my future!

Do we know if Mario has his old moveset back or is he still gimped? I saw a sideflip in one of the videos which gave me hope but I haven't seen anything like bellyslides or the like.

Seems to have loads of stuff. Dont know about the belly flop but he can roll around in a ball. A bit like that other recent 3D platformer :shifty:

I think there is reason here though, it's clearly a fairly large departure from Galaxy, which to me was up there at the pinnacle of the series. I think people can be forgiven for not being blown away.

As for E3, this year was absolute garbage!
