I won't have much time for gaming over the Autumn (new baby on the way!!). This looks like the perfect game to spend the odd 10 mins on.

Indeed, especially with the Switch's handheld functionality and the brilliant sleep function whcig lets you jump straight back in without delay.

They're micro-transactions that Nintendo only produce a limited number of to artificially drive up the price and demand of their products and hurt consumers.

I'm really surprised how dull this new Mario level looks, I don't know how long the game has been in production but it looks like it could use another year in the oven as a lot of the gameplay on show here and at E3 has left a lot to be desired. If this is supposed to be the follow up to Sunshine it's desperately lacking in the imagination factor and to be honest doesn't look all that fun to play.

I like the idea of having open levels where the objective is to find a whole bunch of mini-stars (Moons) but I'd hope actually getting those would involve a fun little task not just ground pounding something.

That said it seems to be picking up a lot of show awards so maybe there's something more in it to play that's not coming across through these videos.

The gameplay doesn't look particularly exciting at this point but generally have to trust them given their record.

I would question the wisdom in going for a more Sunshine style game though, it's the lowest rated of all the proper 3D Mario titles.

I can't speak for the latest footage as I haven't seen it but at E3 it was Game of the Show! It looked like it was absolutely brimming with new ideas and imagination with Nintendo throwing everything and the kitchen sink in. And pretty much all reports from those that played it were overwhelmingly positive.

So I wouldn't worry.

Think your really underestimating the capturing mechanic.

Here's a Hot Take.

It looks considerably less fun than the Jetpack in Sunshine.

Didn't win best mobile game.

Really looking forward to see what emergent gameplay comes about due to this mechanic and the free open world, maybe even things the developers hadn't considered.

I actually agree with this :( So organic and flexible, stretching the usual binary (jump/land) of platforming.

And the realism and colour scheme of its environments looks so much less joyous than Sunshine's pastel shades or Galaxy's glinting richness.

But for some reason I often find this with Nintendo games - then they come out and it turns out they were right all along so who knows (see: Skyward Sword and BotW, both of which I thought looked underwhelming until played in the hand, when I realised they were both beautiful).

The more I see of the game the more it looks like Super Mario 64 2.

Sod Sunshine and Fludd, this is much better.

Seems to have more core platform elements like Galaxy too, I think EVERYONE will find something they love in this.

Yeah this is a much better gameplay video.

Seems like there's going to be a crazy number of moons. I love Mario has a decent moveset again.
