I don't have and likely won't ever get a Wii U, I've only played it round my brother's who no longer has a Wii U. Sad times.

For me, it just wasn't that desirable console, which felt weird because, whether I owned one or not, I desperately wanted every previous Nintendo home console. I already want the Switch far more than I ever wanted the Wii U.

I just want Mario to be front and centre. Nobody does platformers like Nintendo. They can push the party/linked games as well if they want, but build that strategy around an awesome, sprawling platformer that gives Switch owners a gorgeous, joyous world to bounce around from day one.

Oh, and revive 1080, FFS.

I got all 120 stars in 64 and loved it, but for me Sunshine's Fluddless levels are gaming nirvana.

You mean the Void levels? Best thing about the game.

Noooo. 64 has the best world, Galaxy 2 is the best game, 3D Land is just awesome on its own. 3D World comes in 2nd to last for me.

3D Mario has always been my favourite, but Mario Maker is something else. It might (might) be my favourite Mario game.

Also a proper Excitebike would be nice. None of that Truck/Bots nonsense.

Sunshine is a good game but I think it's a bit on the tough side, I still haven't completed it to 100% after owning it since not long after release (it took me years to 100% 64 too). I did beat one of the Shines that always eluded me a year or so back (Pachinko machine) but I rage quit on the Shine down the burning pipe on the little island that you have to use a Yoshi to access, just getting the Yoshi there is a ball ache.

I think the Galaxy games strike an excellent balance between challenge and accessibility which makes them the best 3D Marios.

And, you'd think, would be utterly perfect for the Switch's local multiplayer feature.

(Ooh, so would Advance Wars. It'd be like Battleships for 2017.)

What is this nonsense? Where's the exploration? The varied objectives? The huge moveset of Mario 64 & Sunshine? The amazing soundtrack of the Galaxy games? Oh yeah, it doesn't have any of that, which are the things people love about those games.

I really really wish Galaxy would get an HD remaster. Such a beautiful game let down by absolute lol resolution.

Yep, and there is no need at all to replicate the wiimote functions. Just scrap waggle and the pointing at stars thing and you're golden.

I think that with 3D World (and to a lesser extent, Galaxy) the levels felt like, well, levels.

64 and Sunshine felt more like a world where you could explore.

I meant to quote suzzopher who explained that he liked the actual platforming sections over the exploration as I meant that 3D World has the best platforming bits of all the 3D games. It doesn't have as much exploration as 64 or Sunshine but I prefer that as I also enjoy the platforming more than the exploration. 64 is a fantastic game but I preferred my first playthroughs of the Galaxies, 3D Land and 3D World because they were geared more towards platforming.

As for varied objectives, a lot of the worlds in 64 and Sunshine had you doing similar things with slight variations to get a new star or shine. This makes them feel a lot more repetitive than games like 3D Land and World.

Galaxy's soundtrack is amazing indeed but so is 3D World's. I have both on shuffle on my computers, as well as others.

Sunshine haters :dread:

Sunshine brought so much to table that are still being used in the games today. The incredible Void levels, the Mario clone levels, the colour pallet is nigh on perfect, hell Splatoon takes so much from it. People take this game for granted. Challenge but fair, it feels like a world and most of all a world you want to explore. Part of why I don't rate Galaxy because it feels like a mish-mash of levels. There is no consistency, some like this, some don't.

Plus, it's probably the best game that gives you the feel of summer. Outrun2 following a close second.

Exploration is over rated, SMB3/World are the best and they have linear(ish) 2D levels.

SMB3 is my favourite platformer of all time. So far ahead of its time. What they extracted from the NES was witchcraft.

To me, there are 3 types of Mario games 2D, quasi-2D/3D and 3D exploration. We've had plenty of the first two, time for another exploration one.

You may be getting it. Suggestion the two scenes are from the same place-

Oh and 3D World not having an amazing soundtrack.   wat

Compared to the 3 games before it. You're having a laugh if you think it's of the same quality/as memorable. It's by the numbers Mario music, similar to what they've been shitting out alongside the NSMB games, except nowhere near as bad. Everyone knows 64's tunes, Delfino Plaza is iconic, most of the Galaxys have an incredible orchestral score. I can't remember a single tune from 3D World and I finished it 100%.

Conversely, the first thing that I did after finishing 3D World was download the soundtrack because I enjoyed it so much :toot: If I'm having a laugh, ho-ho-ho :D
