The thing I didn't initially realise was that you had to tap Y again (with the right timing) as you dive into the hat to bounce off it...

I may be misunderstanding you here, but that sounds needlessly complicated. When you perform the dive you only need to keep holding Y (from performing the dive). There's no need to tap it with any sort of timing. Just hold it after the dive and Mario will automatically bounce off Cappy.

Yeah it's fairly simple from an input perspective - Y to throw Cappy, ZL to start the ground pound then hold Y to dive and bounce off Cappy.

...what?

Well now I feel silly - I swear I tried that!

I feel less badass now I'm not doing it with my awesome 'timing' but I admit it's simpler and more flexible that way!

Also that ground pound into fast roll is great, as ground pound into cappy throw which does the downward blade throw automatically. Anyone worked out how to do the upward cappy chuck without motion control?

Also, some of this post-game platforming is awesome, and pushes the mechanics and possibilities to limits untested in the main game proper.

:)

Also I had a mind-blow moment when I realised that my beloved Mario 64 speed and rhythms, and its slightly less hurried and jittery movement might've been more to do with the PAL 50hz version than the game proper. The Japanese version was probably closer to sunshine and odyssey.

Still playing this every day and slowly making my way to the end game, I really wanted to main line it but I can't leave a level without doing every last thing.

Still adore it but man a couple of those hat door stages almost reverted me back to my 13 year old self launching the controller  :fp:

Proper fist pump moments when I beat them though

600 moons in now, and while I am still renjoying it, I think the quantity over quality approach to power moons is starting to take its toll.

I don't think they needed so many, especially the ones that are repeated again and again. I think I've caught that rabbit about fourteen times now for example. I don't think the game needed that padding.

Doing the exact same. Just finished the Snow Kingdom and instead of moving on to the next went back to Metro as there was a good few I missed there and now I have 1 left which is the bloody 100 rope jumps moon :dread: I get to around 60 and mess it up all the time. Think I'm on around 350 moons so far.

Not leaving Metro till I've got that last moon!

I'm on 600 odd now and I swear that strawberry floating rope jump is going to end up being the one I can't get.

Jump rope and volleyball :dread:
Can't see how to do the jump rope one, Mario doesn't jump quick enough. The volleyball one I can't be arsed starting over

Volleyball is apparantly really easy if you put into 2 player mode, place Mario off court and just use the second player cappy controls.

It's easy once you hit that count when it doesn't speed up anymore (Around 50) then it's really easy.

I need to go back to the jump rope and volleyball challenges - I just did enough to get the first Moon on both before moving on. I remember finding the volleyball harder than the jump rope one.

Currently trying to improve my times on some of the Koopa races - there are some ridiculous times on those global leaderboards!

For jump challenge appearantly one of woman syas Hey! which means you should tap a, but if you can't hear like me or don't have sound on, basically just look at Mario's feet, and tap A lightly and quickly and when he lands just jump again. Takes while but with practice you'll get hang of timing.

You goddamn beauty you. Was just on my way to bed and decided on 1 last try for the day and listening out for the hey and saying it in my head timing the button presses worked a charm. Hit 100 then got put off by the bloody moon appearing.

Glad that helped out! I couldn't use the tip so I tried other way and got the moon as well.

I struggled more with the volleyball myself  Got it in end though

Went back and played around in the Cascade Kingdom some more. It lacks the panache of some of the later kingdoms but it's such a pure, fun playground. One of my faves for sure.
