Finished the story, and got the Mario 64 suit in the Mushroom kingdom. Now it's time to get a shit-ton more moons!

I was so excited to see that
Love the
pre-'85 inverse colour overalls too

I wonder if I should've done this, I scrubbed the stages pretty exhaustively before finishing the story. Then again, the stages are such a joy to explore that I'm happy to go into them repeatedly!
In any case, I'm glad this continues the trend of substantial post game content we've seen in recent Marios

Is there something wrong with my joy cons or are the motion controls completely broken? I've taken the joy cons out and am clearly doing the exact motion it says in the action guide and it just isn't working.
Poor show from Nintendo not to add these moves to buttons, motion controls add absokutely nothing.

A lot (not quite all, but most) of the motion controls do map to buttons as well, it's just the inputs are undocumented. If you experiment with tapping/holding the button or pressing other buttons as well you can discover most of them.

What's the button for doing the cap spin attack? Or the cap homing attack?
Trying to use motion control for them with a Pro Controller is incredibly annoying.

In
luncheon kingdom and I found one of the secret
painting warps.
It lead to (BIG LATE GAME SPOILER)
The mushroom kingdom! Holy strawberry floating sheeeiiiit. Found a secret
moon that was actually a star and it played the Mario 64 tune I've got to
browsers kingdom now so I know there
that place after at some point. And I'm pretty sure from how much it keeps being show that you'll end up
on the moon at some point.
I may press on and do the story now as I'm up to about 370 moons.

Rotate the left stick then throw the hat.

Oh yeah, think I'd just have preferred to find out at the end, and
just get to run around in it there and then!

That's fair. I tried
everything to break out of that little island but I just couldn't. I'm guessing that was pretty thoroughly playtested...!

Tonight, I turned into
a T-Rex .
It was ace! But I didn’t realise that it was
for a relatively short time and it disappeared. Do I have to exit that world and return to have another go?

Someone better hold me if we're getting Mario 64 levels as DLC
