Thank you! Should have guessed really - very consistent with the rest of the game.

Don't worry there is a fair amount more in other places

Kingdom rankings? Kingdom rankings (inc. post game):

  1. Metro
  2. Seaside
  3. Mushroom
  4. Luncheon
  5. Bowser
  6. Snow
  7. Lake
  8. Ruined
  9. Cascade
  10. Darker
  11. Dark
  12. Moon
  13. Wooded
  14. Lost
  15. Sand
  16. Cap
  17. Cloud

Kind of difficult to fit in the not-really-open worlds so it might be better to ignore them.

Currently I'm trying to get through darker side.

I can reliably get up to the moving platform with explodey rings, but I've died there twice now.

Also, is the sphinx there deliberately designed to be annoying by only letting you try it once per playthrough and asking questions you literally have to guess at? My guess is that it proves "mastery" by showing you can reliably get back to that point over and over, but it's just annoying.

I think i am nearing the end of the ‘story’. I still feel super mario 64, for its day and age is the best 3d mario to date, but this comes second. I feel the game just lacks a touch of magic - maybe its the music, level designs and power ups?

Perhaps my views will change once i get all moons?

I've been getting every moon I can in each kingdom so only just tried Seaside Kingdom. I'm still living it but I'm starting to understand why some people might be a bit disappointed with certain aspects of the game as other than the boss, every moon has been an approximation of something that has been done in a previous level.

Personally I like it as I feel like I'm getting better at understanding the rules of the game and it's puzzles.

That volleyball though  :fp:

I think there is definitely an element of quantity over quality with the moons. I would have preferred less repetition of moons with a smaller overall quantity personally.

Zelda and Mario combined this year have completely rewired me to not care about collecting everything in an area before moving on. Getting every korok in Zelda makes for a worse experience of playing the game and is basically pointless. Getting every moon in Mario is similiar - although collecting them all is clearly still a goal, it's obviously encouraged as something to do in the post-game and I much more enjoyed moving from level to level at pace without getting caught up with collecting everything.

Some of the moons are a bit rubbish too - especially the ones that are just sitting there in the open without even being hard to reach, and the ones hidden underground that you get with a ground pound.

I don't think the moons and the korok seeds are quite the same. There are so many seeds in Zelda because the world is so big and the developers don't expect you to get them all, just enough to upgrade as you go. Whereas Mario's post game content is basically getting all the moons.

Yeah completely. The similarity is that you're not intended to get all the moons as you first play through the game. Until you hit the post-game the mindset is very similar of just getting the things you come across.

I have enjoyed getting all the moons in each level so far as in later leveld I feel I've found moons without hints that I otherwise wouldn't.

I hope whoever designed "Arrival at Rabbit Ridge!" dies a slow, painful and lonely death.

Just got to Mushroom Kingdom via a painting, so much nostalgia! Love the little touch of the moon being star shaped like those from Mario 64 and the use of the same musical cue when you collect it as well!

It's on the Dark Side of the moon and is the first moon you get there to even unlock the others. You have to fight all 4 Broodals back to back followed by the giant robot but with different mechanics. All with no checkpoints and only one heart refill which is between the 4 Broodals and the robot, so you're doing the Broodals with one health wheel for all 4 fights.

It's all about learning the tricks to shorten the fights as much as possible (which mainly means interrupting the long attack patterns that happen after you cause damage). The only remotely challenging broodal fight imo is the leprechaun rabbit because of the randomness of all the hats bouncing around.

It took my 4 attempts to beat the giant robot at the end, but it's actually really easy and quick if you are super aggressive. If you spam hammers as soon as the legs become vulnerable you can down it before it starts almost any of its attack patterns.

I didn't mind it being a boss rush without checkpoints. What I will complain about is the needlessly long travel time between each boss. That was what annoyed me!

Just got to Snow Kingdom (went to Seaside Kingdom first). So far so great, still excited for new kingdoms and don't want the novelty and surprise to let up. Metro Kingdon's ending was joyous.

And I must admit that it's happened again (see also: my initial negative reaction to BotW's cel-shading, or Skyward Sword's pastel smudges). I was fully on board the This-Game-Doesn't-Look-Good bandwagon - Metro city looked ugly and grey and soul-less, with its My First Video Game human models and cheap-GTA vibe.

But beneath the thumbs its as joyous a playground as anything in any 3D Mario. And the rest of the game is genuinely beautiful to boot - the chunky solidity and rich, varied palette is gorgeous. And loving the playfulness and random abandon of its thematic changes (this pipe leads to a star-speckled toybox! This rocket leads to a cloudy dreamscape!) - it's what I missed a bit in Zelda's commitment to continuity and congruity of landscape. I love these little nonsense-verse enclaves of game space.

In fact, I think (visually) I might even prefer this to Zelda. That games has some hella beautiful areas but truth be told the large desert and snowscapes I sometimes found a little monotonous and bland (not helped by the sparse soundtrack which complemented other areas better). Mario feels vivid and tactile.

Finished the story on this now, what a game! GOTY for me by a long way.

Really enjoying the post game stuff so far - and all I've really done at this point is lark about the Mushroom Kingdom!
